Built on top of a hill in a strategic point of defense, on remains dating from the Bronze Age and Roman times, Castelo Mendo is a historical village surrounded by walls rebuilt in the 12th century by order of D. Sancho I king of Portugal.

The village, surrounded by walls with six medieval gates (the main one flanked by two crests), consists of simple stone houses, originally of two floors, the ground floor being used for livestock, and the upper floor for housing. The extremely narrow streets, facilitated the defense of the village that was the scene of fights during the wars in which Portugal participated, especially those involving the Portuguese and Spanish.

Recently the village has been restored, acquiring some of its original features, and it is a real journey back in time to cross the walls that surround it.

Castelo Mendo has a CP - Comboios de Portugal railway station with connections to Paris, via Hendaye through Sud Express, and Lisbon, via Guarda through Intercidades. Regional trains run daily in both directions.

The property is '' Self-Catered ''. Basic items are provided for your arrival, including toilet paper, kitchen roll, etc. These items are offered on a welcome basis only - replacements or re-fills are not provided. All other items must be acquired by the guest.
￫ Bed and bath linen are provided according to the number of guests confirmed in the reservation. For stays longer than 7 nights, additional bed and bath linen will be provided for free at the check-in.
￫ The Cleaning Fee included in your reservation covers the check-out cleaning only. Extra cleanings or fresh linens can be requested during your stay and are subject to an extra fee - these requests must be done with at least 24 hours in advance.
￫ Check-in time starts from 17:00 to 21:00. Only one set of keys will be provided.
￫ We are obligated by Portuguese law to collect our guest's Passport information.
￫ Check-out must be done until 12:00 am. Before leaving, please place the keys on the main table.
￫ During the stay, the guest is responsible for the safekeeping and proper use of the property's keys. Please avoid leaving them in the lock or mailbox. In the event that a specialized technician is needed for door opening or in case of damage to the key and/or lock, the costs associated with this service will be the responsibility of the guest. In case of key loss, a penalty will be applied.
￫ Crib is available upon request and subject to an extra fee of 15€.
￫ In order to ensure your safety and in accordance with Covid-19 best practices, our properties are always cleaned by a professional cleaning service.
￫ For stays equal to or longer than 28 days, monthly bill consumptions exceeding €150 will be charged separately. By making the reservation, the guest agrees to these terms.
