Four kilometres from the nearest beach at Anissaras, Altair Blue Villa sits on the hillside of Kalo Chorio with the bay of Hersonissos opening out below. Sea, mountain and garden views give the whole place a sense of openness, and a private hot tub and garden invite slow afternoons outside. The Crete Golf Club is nearby, and Heraklion, the coast and the inland villages are all easy day trips. WiFi is available throughout, parking is on site, and the kitchen is fully equipped for longer stays.
The Space:
The luxurious villa is laid out over two floors and built around its views. The living area sits on the upper floor with light moving through the room all day.
The kitchen flows naturally from the living space and is fully equipped, with a filter coffee maker, a toaster, a microwave and everything else you might need during your stay. A dining table sits ready for long, slow meals when you do not feel like going out.
Of the three bedrooms, the master on the upper floor has a private bathroom with a walk in shower. The two bedrooms on the ground floor share a second bathroom along the same corridor, one set up with a double bed and the other with two singles, each with its own air conditioning unit.
Bathrooms are finished with walk in showers and warm under solar hot water throughout. A washing machine means you can pack light and stay longer.
Step outside and the garden, the outdoor seating and a private hot tub make up an everyday version of being on holiday, with morning coffee under the sky and evenings spent watching the lights of the coast in the distance. A private gym sits within the property for those who like to keep their routine, and free on site parking for up to 3 cars make arriving and leaving easy.
Please note that we offer a 20% discount at Sam Water Sport (Hersonissos). There is also another water park in Anopolis!
An ideal destination for year-round vacations, perfect for families, friends, and couples.
Guest Access:
Guests will have full access to all the villa's areas including the exterior jacuzzi.
The Neighborhood:
Kalo Chorio sits high in the hills of the Hersonissos region, around 320 metres above sea level, with the coast laid out below and the mountains rising behind. The setting is old Crete, all olive groves, low stone walls and the quiet rhythm of a working village whose main occupation is still olive cultivation. The village has a well stocked taverna and shop for everyday essentials, and the larger resorts of Hersonissos and Gouves are a short drive down the hill.
The closest beach is Anissaras, around 4 km away, a run of sandy and fine pebble coves set in front of upmarket resorts, with clear water, good snorkelling and water sports at the larger piers. Hersonissos main beach, around 9 km, is longer and more lively, with sun loungers and a busy seafront promenade. Aposelemis beach, also around 5 km, lies where the river meets the sea and is the quieter sandy option in the area. Kato Gouves beach is around 6 km, a long golden stretch with shallow water that suits families.
Right at the edge of the village, the Aposelemis gorge cuts down through the hills, a shaded walk among plane trees and old olive groves, around 2 km from the door. Inland, the Lasithi Plateau and the high villages of the Diktean range are within easy day trip distance, and the hillside above holds the ancient peak sanctuary of Maza.
The Skotino Cave, an important Minoan site, sits around 4 km away on Mount Ederi. The Cretaquarium at Gournes is around 8 km, the Minoan Palace of Malia around 10 km, and Knossos and Heraklion are around 17 km and 21 km respectively. The Crete Golf Club, an 18 hole championship course, is close enough to make a morning round easy to arrange.
Local life here turns on olive oil from the surrounding hillsides, Cretan wine from the inland vineyards, fresh fish at the harbour tavernas down at Hersonissos, and slow evening meals where raki keeps appearing on the table.
An ideal destination for nature lovers and those seeking authentic local experiences all year round.
Getting Around:
Heraklion International Airport is around 25 km away by road, an easy run along the new national highway and reachable in around thirty minutes outside peak summer traffic. The port of Heraklion, which runs daily ferries to Athens and the Cyclades, sits just beyond the airport for guests arriving or leaving by sea. The marina at Hersonissos, around 9 km from the villa, runs day cruises and private boat hire along the coast. A bus stop on the old national road just below the village links into the regular KTEL service running between Heraklion and Agios Nikolaos, with stops in Hersonissos, Stalida and Malia along the way. A car opens up the whole of central and eastern Crete from the door, from the high mountain villages to the south coast beaches, and free parking is on site at the villa with a private garage as well.
Other Things to Note:
You will leave Altair Blue with the kind of week where the days felt longer in the best possible way, with the sea, the hills and the olive groves of Crete all close at hand.
