About 2.5 km from Paralia Karianis sits Villa Horizon, a three level villa built into the hillside on one of the quieter stretches of the Pangaio coast. The layout shapes a stay where mornings stretch on, the fireplace draws everyone in, and the rhythm slows. The beach is a short distance away, the village handles everyday needs, and the wider area opens up to wineries, ancient Amphipolis, and the slopes of Pangaion within easy reach. A place that lets you actually unwind.
The Space:
Villa Horizon spreads across three levels. You enter at the middle level, which holds two of the four bedrooms, including a master bedroom with its own fireplace and a second bedroom set up with bunk beds ideal for younger guests. Down to the lower level, where another master bedroom and a bedroom with a double bed sit slightly below ground.
The living spaces are placed at the top, which is the right call on a hillside like this one. The living room is built around a fireplace that becomes the heart of the villa once the evenings turn cooler, and the kitchen opens off it so that cooking, eating, and lingering happen in the same flow of rooms. Mornings work well up here, and so do long evenings after a day at the coast.
An ideal destination for year-round vacations, perfect for families, friends, and couples.
Guest Access:
The guests will have full access to the villas areas and the outdoor pool! Please note that use of the jacuzzi comes at an extra cost and needs to be communicated before arrival
The Neighborhood:
Kariani sits on the western edge of the regional unit of Kavala, on the curve of the Strymonic Gulf, with the slopes of Mount Pangaion rising behind it and the open water of the northern Aegean stretching south. The land here folds gently between the mountain and the sea, planted with olive groves and vines, and the pace stays slow even in the busiest weeks of the year. The village handles everyday needs through a well stocked local shop and a couple of tavernas, while the larger town of Eleftheroupoli, about 10 km north, covers anything more substantial.
The closest beach is Paralia Karianis, around 1.5 km from the house, a long stretch of sand mixed with fine pebbles, calm and clear and rarely crowded outside high summer. Akti Vrysaki sits a little further east at about 2.5 km, smaller and quieter, with shallow water that holds its colour well into the afternoon. For a bigger day out, Ammolofoi Beach lies about 30 km east, an expansive run of fine sand backed by dunes, and Nea Peramos a few kilometres beyond that combines a swimming bay with a relaxed seafront village to wander through.
The landscape behind you is just as much of a draw. Mount Pangaion, around 20 km away, opens up into forest paths, springs, and the kind of mountain villages that still feel rooted in place. The archaeological site of ancient Amphipolis is about 15 km west, with the famous Lion of Amphipolis standing along the road and a small museum that brings the whole story of the city together. Closer to home, the wider Pangaio region is one of the most respected wine areas in northern Greece, with several family estates within a 10 km drive, and a very local one within easy reach of the village itself.
Time here is spent at the water and at the table. Long swims, lazy lunches of grilled fish and Greek salad, fresh olive oil from the surrounding groves, a glass of local Assyrtiko at the end of the day. The boat trip across to Thasos from the nearby coast adds an easy day on a forested island.
An ideal destination for nature lovers and those seeking authentic local experiences all year round.
Getting Around:
The nearest airport is Kavala "Megas Alexandros" International, around 70 km east of the house, with seasonal flights from across Europe through the warmer months. The closest passenger port for the island crossing to Thasos is at Keramoti, around 75 km away, with ferries running regularly through the day. Having a car opens up the full sweep of the region, from the wineries inland to the long sand beaches further east, and parking is straightforward in this part of the coast.
Other Things to Note:
This is one of those corners of Greece where the mountain meets the sea and life simply moves at its own pace.
