We spent an incredible 3-day weekend at the Retreat in Painswick.
Sue and Tim are extremely accommodating and will make the trip perfect, from having thought through all the details of the house, to having everything like at home, to sharing recommendations and being extremely responsive before and during your time there. This definitely was a highlight
The photographs and videos on the website are beautiful, but they still don’t quite prepare you for how peaceful and serene the Retreat feels in person. There is a real sense of calm about the building and their surroundings that is difficult to capture on camera, and despite being a large group we found there was plenty of space to spend time together as well as quieter areas to retreat to.
The owners do operate a very clear and quite strict noise policy, particularly later in the evening and around the outside areas. Having spent time in Painswick, though, it is completely understandable – it is a small, peaceful and intimate Cotswold village, and the Retreat is clearly intended to fit respectfully into that setting. It certainly didn’t stop us enjoying ourselves it simply means guests need to be considerate of the surroundings, particularly at night.
