Our stay at the Nisswa Lake cabin (8/16-20/2021) was a mixture of the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly. The Good: The cabin is definitely secluded, private, and in a very nice location on the lake. The cabin’s interior was as described and pictured, clean and well maintained. The sauna and firepit were good amenities. The on-site pontoon was the best part. We explored 3 or 4 lakes on our day-long excursion. Keith did an excellent job of explaining everything to us, and gave us some great navigation tips on where we could go and what we could see. Much appreciated!! Nisswa itself is close, and has great shopping and eating/drinking establishments. The Bad: (1) One of the main reasons that we chose this cabin to rent were the pictures of the “beach” and dock areas - lots of sand beach and an appealing waterfront so we could enjoy the water. Once we got there, we immediately realized that, in particular, pictures 9/33, 10/33, 12/33, and 13/33 were taken in a bygone era. They were certainly not representative of today. The “beach” indeed does have some sand. There is maybe 10’-12’ of sand and “open” water (mostly muddy bottom) between the dock and the weed bog. The weed bog extends from the shoreline out about 30’-40’ past the end of the dock and covers the entire area over to the neighboring dock, obscuring it from view. When pictures 9/33 and 13/33 were taken yesteryear, the water was open and the neighboring dock was visible. Not anymore. When we backed the pontoon out from the dock to the lake, we had to maneuver through the weeds and, once out on the lake, shut down the motor to remove weeds from the propeller before we could continue. (2) The written description indicates “TV,DVD,”. This description is indeed correct. There is a TV screen and a DVD player, and many DVDs to play. What the description does not indicate is that there is no cable, no satellite, and no local station access. The TV is limited to DVD playing only. The Ugly - The outside of the cabin has apparently not been tended to since yesteryear as well. The siding, windows, and screens were covered with cobwebs and deceased bugs, gnats, etc. The view from the inside to the outside was definitely hindered throughout. A complete hosing or pressure-washing is definitely in order. For our next up-North rental, we will definitely do some extra research and not totally rely upon written descriptions and potentially misleading pictures from the past.
