Though I had lived out of the area for nearly 40 years, I loved coming home to what I have always called the, "Garden Spot of the Universe."
This past year was the first in 38 years that I have been home, year round, through all four seasons. The Universe did not disappoint me -- the muted pink, white, purple and blue hues of spring's sweetly fragranced flowers gently chased away the cold of winter.
This spectacular display was followed by a mercifully mild (cool) summer -- a time when the whole area turns emerald green, and opportunities abound to take advantage of the 25 recreational lakes and rivers in central North Carolina.
Autumn's leaves loud cacophony of brilliant color, announces that winter will soon be here.
Recent pristine snow made me know that this year the beauty of the area was my homecoming gift! It brought to mind many, many happy times, here among majestic pines when the entire city shuts down to enjoy the snow. During snows, the Raleigh Parks Department provides 'flying saucers' at Dix Park and you can sled the hills until your toes and fingers won't let you stay outside another minute.
Won't you join me?
Please believe me when I say, "Welcome to Raleigh, y'all!"
