We booked this lodging as a base of operations for day trips into Big Bend National Park. When initially driving in to the property, the location seemed remote. But for us, that turned out to be a wonderful advantage. We loved our hikes in BBNP, with the Chisos Basin area our favorite. Yet we saw much more birds and other wildlife just outside our door at Casita de Chiles. Our sightings included deer, quail, fox, jack rabbit, coyote, javelina, and a wonderful array of exotic bird life, many of which I was able to photograph. The sweet relaxing sound of avian calls serenaded us from sunrise to sunset. The Casita itself was beyond our expectations. All possible amenities were provided, including spacious bedrooms, good baths, and a great kitchen with a huge refrigerator/freezer. There were wide screen TV's in each room, though we never turned them on.Exterior amenities include hot tub, fire pits, lounge areas, and a high-end gas BBQ. Above all, the hosts Mark and Michelle, were friendly and accommodating. They love this Terlingua Ranch area and its surrounding wildlife. They go the extra mile to provide water and supplemental food for the deer and birds, turning their outback haven into a desert oasis that we, their guests, may enjoy.
