First, let me say that we were having such a good time at Donner Lake that we would have booked an extra night if we could have. We came with our pup, and the big, fenced- in deck in front with table, chairs and loungers was perfect for both her and us. There's a dock a stone's throw across the street for easy sunning, swimming and fishing and (bonus!!!) an ice cream shop a short walk away. The cabin was very clean, our bedroom was prettily furnished (if very tiny) with a comfy bed. The cabin is by no means fancy, though care has been taken to update bedding, curtains, light fixtures. The downstairs carpet is stained, as is part of the couch, and the doorknob of the front door is barely attached to the door and there's a slight musty smell I associate with all cabins in the woods. But those are all minor. The main reasons I didn't give the cabin a higher rating was: 1) the kitchen cupboards were completely bare, save for a mostly empty bottle of vegetable oil and a container of black pepper. No salt, no spices, nothing. So if you're going to stay here, you have to bring EVERYTHING you need for cooking. 2) LOVED the expansive views ... but not the cars and trucks zipping back and forth all day on the road below. 3) the bedrooms are too small to accommodate nightstands, so there's nowhere to put a glass of water or books or anything else. But given the scarcity of dog friendly houses in the area, I felt lucky to find this one and am definitely considering coming back again next year.
