Uninhabitable
I took a chance and tried to rent this place. I figured it was going to be a bit rustic but it was moldy and smelled of rats. My family decided that we were not going to stay there.
First, I tried to contact the property owner to get check-in instructions. He did not answer his phone. My family then realized the place was unlocked and went in, decided we were not staying and left the property.
The next day the owner answered his phone and I let him know we’re could not stay there. After two unproductive conversations with the owner I contacted VRBO. VRBO says I needed to cancel 30 days before the rental date for a full refund, 15 days for a 50% refund. Both the owner and customer service suggested that I should have looked at the property before committing to rent it. (I live about 5000 miles from Texas)
I have a claim with VRBO to have my money refunded. My security deposit was finally refunded after about two weeks. The owner of the house refuses to refund the rental cost. Customer service has been unprofessional at best.
Another family member rented the big house next door to this one and neither of us would rent from the man again.
