We stayed four nights in mid-July, total of six adults and two school-age kids. This is a great spot for a summer getaway for a family or group of friends. The patio and deck offer a great views over the Saugatuck riverfront, where you can have a drink or meal while watching boats go by and even hear some live music from local restaurants. And the private swimming pool (shared with 1-2 other units) is great for a leisurely dip right at home.
We grilled some chops and cooked some basic dishes on the stove. We also did a couple small loads of laundry. Some areas of the house are recently remodeled (upstairs bathrooms) and some are showing some age (kitchen). Overall the house was very clean inside, and there were friendly cleaning staff that stopped by daily to offer fresh towels, remove trash, and help with any other questions that come up. Be aware that everyone will need to be able to climb a hill and/or several stairs to get to and from the place.
Oval beach is just around the corner, a 15-min walk or a short drive on a road through the woods. Or if you're up for a challenge, you can walk north a bit to Mt Baldhead park and climb the staircase and go over the dune to the beach trail. Walking saves the $10 daily parking fee. The chain ferry is a convenient way to get over to the restaurants in town, and it docks about 50 yds from the house. The main downside is that it stops running at 9pm, a pretty early end to an evening out. We also learned that it closes in windy weather, a call they can make at any point in the day, so it’s good to have a backup plan for getting back.
Overall we had a good experience and would consider staying here again in the future.
