My family stayed in this lovely house for a whole month last year and ever since I have been dreaming about returning.
The house itself is homely but stylish in a classy, not too modern way. It is beautifully furnished with antiques and one off pieces. We were a little apprehensive at only seeing it in the photos which can be deceiving but it is every bit as lovely.
The facilities are more than you could want for a holiday. There was a Kitchen Aid!, a huge American washer/dryer, bikes for the whole family, a fire pit, games and toys galore for my five year old. My daughter learnt to ride a bike on the quiet road outside and has come back obsessed about lemonade stands! It is really set up as a home from home.
We had one issue with a blown fuse board when we were there and the owners had someone round immediately to fix it. (it was simply a case that we had not understood where the fuse board was).
The area has many amenities on its doorstep. The private beach is a short walk up the road. In all the four weeks we were there we essentially had it to ourselves. Newhaven was about 30mins in the car and Providence was about an hour up the road. The train to New York leaves locally. In the four weeks we only scratched the surface of what we could have done. But we loved just pottering locally - going to farmers markets, riding lessons, buying a pumpkin, breakfast at the local Turtle Cafe (recommended), SMores at Shanks on the waterfront, farms with corn mazes and ice cream. There is a great yoga class each week in the R Julia Bookshop which is a must see in Madison. And in general it is clear that there is a great community spirit in the area with community events on all the time. The owners left a book out of restaurant recommendations and they were all great shouts.
The house would suit anyone I am sure but its clear that the owners go out of their way to add that little extra personal touch and thats what sets it apart. (they had even left a pumpkin in the doorstep)
I would go back in a heart beat. We have been to the area before and stayed in the Madison Beach Club but I far preferred the relaxing nature of the house.
The only issue is that the bed in the spare room, although beautiful to look at, is not comfy for an adult and very squeaky. And two of the bedrooms are connected which was no issue for us but might have been for others.
It is winning combination of location, house, superb friendly hosts.
