Wow! This Yucatan beach rental blew me away--it exceeded all expectations, and it was one of my best VRBO experiences to date.
Telchac Puerto is one of the sleepy fishing towns on the stretch of Yucatan beach east of Progreso. You must have a car (don’t worry, there is zero traffic and it is very easy to navigate there, and fun to be able to explore), and it seems a bit remote, but the bonus is that you will pretty much be the only one around, assuming you avoid the big holiday weeks. The water is calm in the summer, with beautiful shades of turquoise and blues out to the reef in the distance, and you can walk out into the ocean for at least a hundred yards, on a soft sandy bottom. It is paradise.
The house itself is Mexican beach breezy, with beautiful talavera tile accents throughout, including in the large filtered beach front pool, plus gorgeous landscaping all around. The layout is great for lounging and entertaining—downstairs is open concept, there is a quality bbq outside, full washer/dryer, plenty of seating inside and out, and it has a great flow. There are AC units in every room, which is fantastic.
The size is perfect for a single, couple, or small family. It is really well equipped with more appliances than your typical beach rental. The views from the downstairs and master bedroom are breath taking, with a beautiful authentic palapa off the master balcony. The master bedroom king mattress is high quality and quite comfortable (I think it was a hybrid plush top) which is a rarity in these parts and one of the biggest factors I look for these days when I travel.
The owner and local property manager are outstanding—they responded immediately to my questions before arrival and during my stay, and went above and beyond to make sure I felt at home. They are professional, competent, and truly kind and genuine people—this is the ideal vacation rental owner/management experience you hope for.
It’s about a 15 minute walk to “downtown” Telchac, or a two minute car ride, and there are a few other interesting beachfront restaurants scattered up and down the coast nearby to check out.
Almost every day I was there, I was the only person in the ocean for as far as the eye could see. It is unbelievable that such a beautiful, accessible, and affordable location still exists in the world today. I am dreaming of being there as I type this, and I plan to go back and rent this house as soon as possible!
