This was our second stay in an Outpost rental during our one week vacation in Jackson. We were surprised that the entry code for this rental was the same entry code we were provided for our previous Outpost rental. Upon arrival we were also surprised to find another couple unpacking in our unit. After talking with them, they realized they were in the wrong unit, but because their entry code allowed them access, they assumed they were in the right place. Even more surprising, the couple who were mistakenly in our unit when we arrived found someone in their correct unit, which was nearby. These incidents indicate that Outpost has a significant problem with security in the procedures it uses to allow guests access to the rental units.
We rented our unit through VRBO and rely on the site to provide an adequate description so we can determine whether the rental is a good fit for our needs. The description did not do that in this case. As two couples traveling together, we wanted two bedrooms and two baths. While this unit technically meets that requirement, what was unsaid is that one bathroom is upstairs, while both bedrooms are downstairs. Accessing the upstairs bathroom from either bedroom requires going up the stairs and crossing the living area and kitchen. Plus, the sink for both bathrooms is out in the open, not behind a closeable door. Upstairs, the sink opens to the kitchen, while downstairs it opens to a hall. As my wife put it, it's gross to think that while I dry my hair and brush my teeth upstairs, strands of hair and spittle could be blowing into the kitchen. This arrangement might be acceptable for a family with small children, but it's not for two couples needing some minimal amount of privacy. In addition, the bunk bedroom has no closet. The only storage space is a built-in hat rack with five hooks and two, one-cubic foot cubes that slid into the hat rack. Bright lights shone into the bedroom at night through the thin window coverings. We had to buy sleep masks in order to sleep.
On the positive side, the rooms were clean and the kitchen was well equipped. The unit has partial views of the surrounding mountains and was convenient to the main square for shopping and dining. The decorations in the rental reflected the Jackson area.
