I thank Tierica for her review, and, while delighted that she rated her stay as almost perfect, as a host who tries very hard to ensure a great experience, I am disappointed in not meeting all her expectations – what a pity! Having lived in the US myself, I must admit that it is very hard to recreate conditions in America, here on a tiny island, which is in the tropics, enormously beautiful, but, at the end, simply not as well resourced. At the same time, I do think that it is important that guests have reasonable expectations with respect of vacations in different parts of the world, especially destinations which are different economically and geographically, outside of branded resorts. Zandoli, is our home, which I designed and built, and is listed on VRBO and Airbnb as a short term rented villa; we try to make it comfortable for our guests on those issues which we can control.
As of July 8th, 2021, we had a brand-new concrete public road installed by the government. Previously the last 490 meters to the property was a rolled but unpaved surface. The new road covers 300 meters, leaving 200 meters (less than 1 minute to drive along) unpaved. This last section is gentle, with no problem at all to navigate, even for the lowest cars. Since Tierica’s 4 day stay came a few weeks after construction of the new road, I was surprised to read the description of the road and experience with other taxi drivers; all the more so since Eddie – our wonderful driver - seemed to have shuttled the guests from door to door, daily. In any event, many guests choose to drive their own rental, and the property is serviced by a second fully paved road. Guests simply take the path next to the pool, to our garden gate, to the fully paved road – where they are picked up by large coaches for island tours. This is a walk through the property of less than 1 minute.
There are 10 floodlights around the pool deck, all are working. They are extraordinarily bright. And while the single pool light is being replaced and rewiring is being done – there is no problem at all in swimming at night, even without moonlight – the area is so bright! Similarly, the fans and bed night lights are all secured in outlets, all of which are working. Our electrician checks bulbs and outlets prior to each arrival as part of our checklist. It is certainly the case that there are only two American type outlets in the villa. The electricity in St Lucia is 220 voltage, outlets use three prongs. I purposely wired the house with 110 voltage in the kitchen for the use of our guests using American type appliances. I also send a note in our welcome package to all guests advising of the voltage and outlets in St Lucia. Needless to say, the electrical outlets in other parts of the villa are all 220, and do not support 110 appliances. Converters for prongs simply will not work. These do not convert voltage. Mosquitoes are also seasonal usually July-November (in many parts of the world – and not only in the tropics). We have bed nets, screens at windows, and have installed mosquito traps; each room is equipped with ceiling and standing fans for the comfort and use of our guests. We do recommend the use of repellants and a note on mosquitoes is also included in our package to guests, prior to arrival. As for “Felix” the cat…we have asked the animal shelter to find a good home for the stray cat who has found his way to the property:) If you truly wish to experience tropical life , in a garden like rustic setting, and St Lucian culture, we invite you to read our wonderful reviews also on the Airbnb site for our property, and would be delighted to host you!!!
