Villa Swell is gorgeous. It's brand new, very clean, has a beautiful pool and a lovely view of the water off the Grand Anse and the Deshaies harbor. The pictures seem to flatten the house somehow: it is both larger and nicer than the Ikea-catalog-style photos on the site. The beds and linens are new and comfortable the en-suite bathrooms are large, quite stylish, and have rain showers with plenty of hot water and the air conditioning in each room works perfectly. Every room has a sliding glass door with a screen that opens to a view of the bay. Two rooms have small, covered gardens adjacent to the bathroom. The upstairs bedroom has its own small terrace and a portal window. The kitchen is large and the appliances are new and work well. The huge sliding glass doors that open off the living room allow you to create an indoor/outdoor space with a view. We ate every meal on the large tables by the pool. There are plenty of comfortable chairs, loungers and towels. The washer/dryer is a nice touch. Wi-Fi is very fast.
The house is a steep, 90-second drive up from the Grande Anse beach. We ventured to other parts of Guadeloupe, but this really is the most beautiful, least-crowded beach on the island. Deshaies is tiny, but charming, and it has a number of good restaurants, a bakery, a pharmacy, a doctor, and a small grocery store. A larger grocery store is only an 18-minute drive up the road. Concierge services are provided by Virginie, who is completely fantastic.
More as an FYI, the owners have two smaller houses right next door. The guests there were totally pleasant, but you can definitely see them from the pool and two of the bedrooms, so make sure you are suitably dressed!
