Ypres visit

The property was excellent. It had everything you could need - including a kettle and toaster. The property was in a very good location, being within an easy to walk to the city centre. We had a lovely time, thank you.

Amazing Experience

We thought this accommodation was superb! We stayed here because we were retracing the steps of my greatgrandfather’s experience in WW1. My family (me, husband, 5yr old & 7yr old) travelled to Ypres from UK and my parents from Canada. We had plenty of bedroom space here our kids loved the loft they could sleep in in our bedroom, they made it into their own special bedroom. My parents also really liked the space. We loved sitting on the deck and drinking beer which Sven kindly left for us. Sven was an extremely generous host. It was a very special trip for us and Sven’s beautiful place and hospitality made it superb.

Great Apartment in centre of Ypres

Sven and Katleen were great hosts and very accommodating around our check-in and check-out allowing us to optimise our stay. The apartment is brilliantly placed in the centre of Ypres, 5 minutes walk from Cloth Hall and easy access to the rampart walk. It is ideal for any walking sightseeing in Ypres. The apartment is superbly equipped and laid out around a long kitchen with everything you need. There is also a terrace that catches the evening sun. Shower is wonderful after riding the Gent-Wevelgem classic and the bedrooms are spacious and comfortable to sleep in. There was also locked indoor storage for our road bikes. Will definitely return if staying in Ypres again.

Recommendable

We, two adults plus three teenage girls, thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Ieper. The house is situated close to the city center within easy walking distance of everything you want to visit. It was very clean with comfortable beds and a nice terrace. Parking in the street in front of the house is limited to two hours from, I think, 9 am to 6 pm, but that was no problem for us as we usually left in the late morning and returned in the evening; but if you want to stay parked all day, there is free parking available not far away. For us, Ieper turned out to be the perfect home base for various trips around Flanders and also across the French border. We had no problem finding enough interesting things to do and places to see during our two-week stay and didn‘t even find the time to try out the bikes povided by the host. All in all, very recommendable.

Superb

This is an amazing property, in a great location. Situated in a quiet side street in Ypres within easy walking distance to the center. The property is spotless and has some really nice features, including an outdoor terrace, to enjoy a cold Belgium beer on, on a warm evening. Sven and his family were extremely welcoming and helpful, supplying us with maps and information, and parking passes. Such friendly people who were always available to answer questions and make recommendations. The layout of the bedrooms worked great for us, 2 single beds on a mezzanine above a double bedroom, so the kids were in our room but not at the same.time, and a separate double bedroom for the grandparents. Bikes were available to use and looked in great condition, unfortunately we didn't get chance to use them, hopefully next time. Ypres is an amazing place to visit, unbelievably clean and tidy, with such rich history. I highly recommend it as a place to visit and Sven's place is the perfect base to explore it from. I can't wait to return for a longer stay. Thank you so much to Sven and his family for a perfect end to our continental adventure.

Ten days in Ieper

Sven was a fantastic host. The apartment was spotless, everything we expected and was the perfect base for our stay in Ieper. The location was very peaceful whilst also bring central and ideal for exploring Ieper and beyond. We hope to visit again at some point.

Exceeded our expectations!

This is a beautiful place to stay. You can tell that Sven and Katleen put a lot of thought and care into this rental. It is located on a quiet street and is close to everything Ieper has to offer. The beds were very comfortable and the bathroom was amazing! Sven greeted us with a smile upon arrival and when we left. I would highly recommend this place for anyone visiting Ieper.

Wonderful in Ieper/Ypres

This was my second time staying at Sven's property. It was great both times. Sven and his family live next door. Sven is really nice and helpful. The property is first class, and the second floor outdoor terrace is a real delight. History is my hobby, and the house makes a very convenient base for WWI exploration. The museums, cemeteries, trenches, etc are a short distance. It is a very short walk to the town historic center, and every evening's "Last Post" ceremony at the Menin Gate. If you enjoy Belgian ales the town has a fabulous selection, and the famous Westvleteren is a short drive away. Parking is on the street, but was never a problem. There were always parking spaces nearby. We could not have been happier with our stay!

Central location cation

We enjoyed a 2 night stay at this lovely central gite. It was easy to find and to walk to the centre from. The kitchen was well stocked and the owners were very welcoming.

We loved staying in this property. Very well appointed, everything was provided, even some cards and games to play at night. The apartment was in a very convenient location and there were photos of the town pre and post WW1. We loved the 'Flanders Field' poem on th wall. Sven and Katleen very helpful at all times.

Great pick!

The house is lovely, and Sven is great! The owners live next door, and are super nice and cooperative. The house has a terrific location and is a short walk to stores, historic sites, rampart and park walks, and the "Last Post" at Menen Gate. The WWI sites and museums are a short drive away. It is even a short drive to Westvelteren and the famous monks" beer. Parking is on the street, but was never a problem. I highly recommend this property and the owners.

excellent location

Great location, spotlessly clean with a lovely terrace to sit outside when weather permits. Sven is very professional and gives good information about the surrounding areas and leaves a helpful file with you for reference. There is a flight of stairs to access the house which is on the first and second floor, this was not problematic to us; however needs to be taken into account for anyone with limited mobility. We would definitely stay here again.

We were a family group aged from 23 to 76 and we all enjoyed staying at this beautiful apartment which had everything one could possibly need for an enjoyable stay in the wonderful city of Ypres. Excellent location within a few minutes walk to the main square and the Menin gate. Also a great base to visit military cemeteries in Flanders fields.

Perfect

The apartment is perfectly situated to explore ypres and the flanders area. The apartment is well equipped and the balcony was great to relax on an evening. Sven was really helpful with advice on where to go and what was worth seeing. We will definitely be back.

Lovely home in the heart of Ypres

Beautifully finished and equipped house in a quiet street only five minutes walk from the Cloth Hall. Ideal for exploring the Flanders WW1 sites but equally good for just chilling out and enjoying the Belgian food and drink. Sven was a helpful, friendly host who made sure we had everything we needed.

This holiday home is run by Sven Daelman and Katleen Pattyn, both in their early forties, who have 3 boys –Arthur, Baptiste, and Eduard. The couple has lived in the ‘cat city’ since 1997 and purchased the holiday home next to their own house in 2009.

The home was purchased with the intent to move Katleen’s physiotherapy practice into the bottom floor. Because more and more tourists began visiting Ypres, we made the decision not to permanently rent the upper floors, but to rent them on a temporary basis. That’s how this holiday home was born. After a few years of blood, sweat, and tears for renovation, the holiday home was opened up for booking on 28 June 2014. This date was chosen because it is the 100-year anniversary of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria, the beginning of the Great War.

'Gîte de Lombard' is located in the city centre, but in a quiet area. The city’s greenbelt, the Fortifications, is just a 20-metre walk away and you can enjoy nature in peace and quiet here. An advantage of this is that you can easily birdwatch from the rooftop terrace. You can reach the most important sights, monuments, museums, shops, restaurants, and bars in the city centre without the stress of taking your car. There is free parking with the blue card that you’ll receive upon arrival. The train station is just 500 metres from the home as well – it’s a simple and relaxing way to visit the rest of Flanders and Belgium. 'Gîte de Lombard' is the perfect place to start your visit to the medieval city of Ypres and the Westhoek.
