My sister, husband, and I spent 5 days at Chalet Suay. We were greeted by Flo, the caretaker. She explained the house and gave us thoughts on places to dine. The chalet is connected to two other units. There is a lower unit which has a door right at the steps to the chalet and the front of the building has a unit as well. We enjoyed the proximity the chalet had to a river, hiking trails, and there is a bus stop at the end of the driveway. We did have a few hiccups with the chalet but none were too taxing. We contacted Flo each time and she was quick to respond. We appreciated having her contact information and she was quite a delight. The chalet has a wonderful view of Mont Blanc and the sunsets on the side of the mountain were glorious. There is a small parking lot down the long shared driveway. We drove up to the chalet door only once, it was very hard to back out of the driveway which is shared with the lower unit. We decided the walk up the hill was worth the safety of the rental car. There is a fantastic river running beside the chalet and we enjoyed listening to it at night. Right across the river walkway, out the main door, is a trail. We took the trail up to a chalet and enjoyed fondue overlooking the valley. We are from Florida so this hike was an intense walk UP! You will see many hikers passing by the chalet on their way to a trail or from the trail. There is a very small grocery store in town (can be closed at odd times) and a larger one is Passey. You could reach the chalet using the train/bus, however, I would highly recommend a car. The drive to Chamonix was lovely, but it was nice to get out of the busy town and back to our lovely chalet after a day of hiking. Be warned though, if you are using the upstairs main bedroom you must duck low to get through the gate door. I am 5'3" and my husband is 6'7", of course he had to duck often, including in the kitchen from the lowered lights. However, I had to duck a good deal to get into the bedroom from the bathroom. After a few times knocking your head, you'll learn how low to duck! Worth all the bumps to enjoy such a lovely place! Thank you Tom for sharing Chalet Suay with us, we enjoyed our stay!
