Perfect, simple get away

This property was a cute, cozy country cabin. It’s a perfect get away from the busy city life. The cabin was comfortable and clean. The owners were very hospitable and friendly. We will definitely return.

Fabulous!!

The cottage is very quaint and the small extra touches were awesome!! The card to welcome us, the muffins, and fresh eggs! The family are the nicest people!!

Little Amenities go a Long Way

Excellent guest house, right off the main house. The little amenities make the difference! Excellent lighting in the bathroom!! Soft linens! Super comfy sofa bed! Lots of pillows provided! Plastic containers to store leftovers! Full set of pot/pans! Filtered water pitcher! Internet that works! Hulu Live & Netflix provided! Wide doorways make the property accessible to a wheelchair. Amanda & Eric are hospitable hosts that had pumpkin muffins & farm fresh eggs waiting for us upon arrival. Highly recommend Walnut Creek Retreat to get away from the hustle & bustle of city life!

Peaceful Place

We came in to the property welcomed by a Christmas tree, music, and muffins & cookies. The home is well maintained and clean. The family that owns the property were kind and friendly. They have many animals on the grounds and my children really enjoyed seeing them though we didn't have the time to interact with any except the adorable outdoor cats. Next time we're in town we will definitely look here first. A peaceful place to rest your head. Thank you Amanda, Eric, & kids for letting us stay in your gorgeous home.

Cute and Peacful

We traveled from Michigan and had a beautiful stay. Located out of the city and provides a quite and peaceful environment that had a lot of charm. It was a comfortable stay and we would book again.

A nice weekend getaway

My wife an I just needed a weekend together with no kids and interruptions. We had a well needed lazy couple days in a quiet place where we could connect. Even though the main house is very close, we never heard or saw our hosts after checking in. The accomodations were clean, the AC was very nice in the Texas heat and we had lots of in-room entertainment options. Simple and perfect.

Wedding Weekend

Being from the country ourselves we felt very comfortable at this property. The home was cute & provided everything we needed for our brief stay. Because we were in town for a wedding, we were very busy & did not get to enjoy the property as much as we would have liked to. Communication with the owners was great.

Texas Motor Speedway

This location was the perfect distance away from the Texas Motor Speedway and in the right direction. When we left we turned towards “home” and it was clear all the way, which made for good timing for a late night race. The location was beautiful and tranquil. The house itself was set up perfect for all our needs and provided a relaxing, stress free weekend getaway for our family of 4. We will defiantly be back for the next race we can get too as we all had a wonderful weekend!!

Nice quiet getaway

It was a very nice relaxing family getaway. Out in the country a bit but still lots of fun stuff pretty close. Absolutely loved the family! Very welcoming and friendly! Totally recommend and we will be going there again!

wonderful

We had a great time. The cottage is very nicely decorated. The kitchen was well stocked to be able to cook. The owners and their family is very kind and hospitable. Offered us beautiful vegetables from their garden and fresh eggs from their farm. Couldn't have been a more pleasant stay. Thanks for the great accommodations. Blessings to you all.

Retreat is an apt word for our experience. Such each a relaxing atmosphere. It was wonderful watching the family tend to all their animals.

Generally OK, Flies at the beginning, Slightly sulpher water.

The pictures are accurate. The location is in the landlord's back yard, 20 feet from their home. The ad said the property was 8 miles from the Texas Motor Speedway. This is incorrect, it is 18 miles from the Texas Motor Speedway. It is a 30 minute drive each way. There is a pool, but you are not allowed to use it. There are 8 children in a mixed family and there is some noise in the afternoons with the pool and children. We had problems with the flies. I swatted over 50. Most were the first day. Some the second day and then just a few a day. They also found a way to get into the bathroom, I think it was through the window ( not sealed between the panes) There were some tomatoes growing in a pot next to the front door. They had split and attracted the flies. As we went in and out the door unloading our car, flies got in each time the door opened. We tried to minimize the number of times we opened the door. I broke one fly swatter. Our hosts were kind enough to bring one by. I killed about 30 flies the first evening. We later found that on the other end of the building there was fruit from the trees on the ground and also attracting flies. Lastly the trash cans were just around the corner from our door. There is also livestock. The flies were definitely a problem. Amanda removed the split tomatoes and the fly problem decreased. By the end of the week, the fly problem was minimal. Just a handful per day. As far as the location. We did enjoy being closer to Decatur. We did some shopping there and tried 2 of the restaurants. We liked both Sweetie Pies Ribeyes and Roosters Roadhouse. We had a problem with one of the two air conditioners. The control screen went blank when we tried to modify the settings. It was getting hot inside. Amanda called her husband and they determined to replace the batteries in the remote and that fixed it. At home I have my A/C set at 73. Here I had to set it to 68 to achieve the same comfort. The water has a slightly sulpher smell. The can opener did not work. We bought a can opener and an ironing board. The mini size ironing board was insufficient for us. We iron every day. There were a few minor cleanliness issues. The floors had been swept but they missed behind the bathroom door. The fan blades needed to be cleaned, especially in the living room. All of the kitchen appliances worked fine. There was ice in the ice trays of the freezer, but we bought bags of ice.

We can’t wait to come back!

Our family loves to have weekend getaways a few hours from home, but we typically go to the beach. I wanted to surprise my husband with a different type of stay because his dream is to have our own little farm. This property was PERFECT! My daughters absolutely loved the swing outside, the cows, and the goats the most. Amanda & Eric (and kids!) have thought of everything for the guesthouse. It was very clean, smelled so good, and was stocked with anything we could think of (extra pillows and blankets, dish-ware, seasoning, fans, a filtered water pitcher, everything we could think of). They left a note with recommendations for restaurants and things to do and we had the best time. We went to Rooster’s Roadhouse, the candy shop, the Dallas World Aquarium, and the Fort Worth Zoo! We laid around and watched Netflix and Hulu after a busy couple of days. We also got to meet two sets of neighbors who were lovely. We can’t wait to come back!

Grandmother and Granddaughter weekend to relax

My granddaughter and I had special bonding time and such enjoyment at this cozy country retreat. The comfy bed and beautiful views with sunsets were among our favorite memories. The goats were a big surprise and joyful experience for my two year old granddaughter. All the animals were clean and very sweet.. Perfect for a toddler to interact with. This is a place I can bring my granddaughter and enjoy some fresh outdoor enjoyment.. The owners are such amazing people and everyone who graces their property will see this about them. Highly recommend a stay at the Walnut Creek Retreat!

Wonderful Stay

We had a wonderful time here. We ventured into downtown Decatur where we found some treasures at the local shops. The cozy house had everything we needed from the stocked kitchen to the comfy bed.

Lovely get away!

At arrival the owners greeted my daughter and I and shared about their property. Very sweet family! Your children are so we'll behaved and loved how your oldest was sharing about the area to my daughter. The little home is well stocked and comfortable. I was greatly surprised at the hospitality of the Texans. As a southern myself I do not see this type of friendliness anymore; very sad to say. The property is very beautiful and wished we had the time to walk around. We did visit the Fort Worth zoo (awesome place), Eagle Mountain Park (Beautiful) and Eagle Mountain International Church. ( Best church I ever been too). Thank you again!!

Wonderful place to get away for awhile

Eric and Amanda have provided a great little place for a couple to get away for awhile. The bed is very comfortable with nice linens. The smart TVs are convenient. The kitchen setup is perfect. They even provided coffee, fresh farm eggs and muffins for us! Checkout and clean up was a breeze and overall it was a well needed relaxing break from the hustle and bustle.
