My next visit will be my 8th to Benaulim one day I hope to spend the winters there, I never tire of this beautiful part of the globe.
Teresa's and Nigel's apartment is lovely, close to all amenities and the beach, yet far enough away to be peaceful, set amongst old colonial houses, the views from the back of the property are stunning, overlooking marshland, rice fields and greenery, hours can pass by watching the water buffalo, kingfishers and wildlife, the large verandah is the perfect place to start and end the day, sometimes it's hard to move!
Benaulim is a village in southern Goa set behind 17k of beach, it is a riot of colour, activity and untouched beauty, the beach has many and varied shacks all offering wonderful dishes at ridiculously cheap prices, also the village has some fine restaurants. Of all the shacks Blue corner is my favourite, over the years the owner Raj his sister Shila and all the staff have become good friends, this year I will once again be spending 3 weeks with them all.
Walking for miles along the beach is a must do, as is getting up early at least once to watch and help the fishermen drag the nets in while they chant.
Discovering the rest of Goa is easy and cheap, scooters for local bombing about on and taxis for longer trips, both are very cheap and the driver is yours for the day.
To sum up Teresa and Nigel's Goan home, it's a hidden treasure and is rapidly becoming my second home, one of which I will never tire.
