As a forth generation Coloradan, I feel i'm as native as it gets. I take advantage of all Colorado has to offer and enjoy living here with my wife and kids. We all get out often to hike, bike, ski and camp throughout the state and of course the HWY 40 corridor where our cabin the JungFrau is located.

The JungFrau cabin has quite a history in our family. Even before the current cabin was built back in the mid 1950's, our family was coming into this area. It all started as far back as 1870 when my great grandfather became friends with a family in Kiowa. That family had a mine located up at the end of our road and invited my grandparents to come up and visit. Years later my grand parents made that same journey, but instead of traveling by horse, they came by car. Even with the exhausting trip in a Ford model T, coming all the way from Denver, It must of been such an adventure and a fun thing to do, because they visited often. My grandparents even celebrated their honeymoon there in 1926. Over the years of traveling back and forth, they often paused to admire this little ole cabin on the river that once originally stood on our property. The old cabin was once a resting spot for early travelers in covered wagons pulled by horses on their way to Berthoud pass or local mines in the area. The river provided water for all those thirty visitors and their horses. I imagine my grandparents stopping there to look around, maybe to fill the radiator with water and maybe even do some fishing in the river before heading on. At some point the property became available for purchase. So in 1933 one of my uncles decided it was a good opportunity, so after coughing up $500 he became the proud owner. That old cabin was sort of a wreck from what stories have been told of it. Never the less, my aunts spruced it up and for the next 20 some odd years, my grandparents generation drove up in their model T's to vacation in this very spot. The old cabin had many faults and sometime in the 50's my aunts envisioned a more modern cabin, one that had more modern features like plumbing. That day arrived in 1957 after one of my aunts purchased the property from my uncle for the original deed of $500. Then the new cabin was built and later named JungFrau after my aunt Alley.
