Villa Castiglione is a trip back in time, and it's not a recreated piece of the past - it's genuine in every possible way, except of course, such things as the spotlessly clean pool, the bathrooms and the appliances (we even used the washing machine once). Everything else - the time-polished slabs of the front yard, the ancient stone wall fences, the stone planter boxes - looked and felt so authentic, as if it was taken from a museum.
We spent only three days there, and were very sad to leave. The villa was so beautiful, we were reluctant to leave every morning, though there's a ton to see within a short drive. We just wanted to linger a little more, to take a few more pictures or make another video.
Privacy: we were the only guests, and enjoyed the huge apartment on the second floor, with a separate door, kitchen and 2 bathrooms. It has 1 master bedroom plus 2 more very spacious bedrooms, a study room with beautiful antique furniture, a dining room with a pretty old china cabinet filled with figurines, and a kitchen equipped with everything one might need to cook a serious meal, including an electric citrus juicer, teapot, etc.
The bedroom closet had over a dozen towels and extra sheets/blankets.
The host: Antonio went overboard in his hospitality. His mother prepared a welcome snack that could count for a whole dinner. Antonio and his mother greeted us upon arrival and answered all our questions. Antonio gave us info on beaches, supermarkets, and towns to visit. He is a true patriot of beautiful Sicilia, and is very attached to the villa that has been in his family's possession for centuries.
Location: the villa would be a perfect place for an unforgettable wedding or family gathering. It is located in a very secluded area just outside of Ragusa, yet it is easily and quickly accessible from the major highway.
