Relax in this warm, sunny and well-appointed three-bedroom home. Conveniently located close to Fairlie township and Lake Tekapo.

The Black House is finished to a high standard with full amenities. Enjoy the peaceful, tranquil surroundings amongst gently rolling countryside and looking out to stunning views of Mt Dobson. Soak in the deep, luxurious outdoor bath and enjoy spectacular world-renowned night sky star gazing. A great spot for a romantic getaway or family adventures.


Three bedrooms, a sitting room, bathroom and fully equipped kitchen. Slide back the doors to enjoy the patio or covered outdoor bbq area. The house is warm and well insulated. There is a heat pump and log burner. Hot water is heated by gas.

Outdoors there is plenty of space and privacy. The property is fully fenced. There is an outdoor socket for EV charging.

Guests have access to the entire home and large surrounding area. Firewood is provided. Plenty of space for parking onsite.

This was just an awesome bach. Perfect for our family of five. Clean, comfortable, extremely well-equipped (have never seen so many teas and spices in an rental). Was wonderful to have a BBQ out on the deck with no neighbours except sheep. Would gladly stay again.

Our favorite stay on the South Island!

This beautiful, cozy home in a peaceful setting was perfect for our family. Fairlie was so charming and warm! We were grateful to spend time at the Black House, and only wished we could have stayed longer!

The most stunning modern house with a very luxurious feel to the styling and decor. The owners were incredibly kind and had some great advice and recommendations for the family to make the most of our stay. The house was very cosy and immaculately clean. We wish we stayed longer, exceeded our expectations!

Amazing little house

We were so impressed with this property. It's chic in the middle of farm country but also feels warm and welcoming. The furniture pieces are all very comfortable, including the beds and linens; everything basically felt like a cross between a really nice hotel and our own home. Only hiccup was that we ran out of toilet paper towards the end of the stay! Would absolutely stay here again if Fairlie is on the travel itinerary.

Beautiful Winter Wonderland

Staying at Black House was truly magical. It was the first week of winter, and we were surrounded by snow, which made the experience even more special. The house is beautifully presented, thoughtfully equipped, and wonderfully warm — with plenty of firewood to keep the fireplace going.The views across to the mountains are absolutely breathtaking, and the peaceful setting made for a perfect retreat.Our host was incredibly kind and responsive, which made everything easy and enjoyable. It was such a joy to stay here — we only wish we could have stayed longer!
