Firefly Farmhouse is a nostalgic getaway for the creative sojourner, families, or those who need to be in a rural yet convenient, safe setting. The 100+ year old home is a true farmhouse, having once been part of a 300 acre farm. Firefly Farmhouse sits on one acre in the midst of a pastoral rolling hillside in the Cumberland Foothills. The home was recently lovingly resuscitated by her artist/owner. There are charming vistas and venues both within and without the two-story frame home.

I am a mixed media artist and former interior designer who lives in Florida. Yet I have family roots in Franklin County. My mother was born on a farm in Winchester on Christmas day in 1917. The doctor came by horse and buggy to deliver her. I still have "kinfolk" in Cowan and Winchester. My Aunt Polly Hughes is very well known in these parts. My father went to the University of the South in Sewanee. My parents met and fell in love at Clara's Night Club and courted at the famous rock on the mountain. I have a picture of them holding me as a baby at that spot. My roots were calling me and I found this lovely farmhouse to reconnect.

I seriously searched for real estate in the area. When the realtor turned onto the street I immediately resounded with the rolling hillside and pasture land. When we turned up the driveway I felt good about the property. It was in very rough condition but had good energy, good light and gracious space with high ceilings and a decent layout. I began the renovation at the end of 2019. Firefly Farmhouse has been lovingly resuscitated and will continue to be.

I've enjoyed having a cocktail, reading a book, and eating watermelon on the front porch with friends and family at sunset. The gas stove in the living room is a great place to relax with a cup of coffee or glass of wine. The sunset is also beautiful from the living room. The 1st floor bedroom has its own exterior door that leads to an adirondack chair on a covered breezeway. It's also a great place to start the day in warm weather. The back deck lends itself to gatherings. The back yard is fenced so safe for dogs. There are many views and vistas from within and without Firefly Farmhouse. A large beech tree graces the front yard and an old barn is in the offing up the hill from the back of the house. The upstairs windows and dormers offer lovely wooded and pasture views. Even though the house is in a fairly rural setting it is still close to necessary conveniences and the charming square of downtown Winchester. Adjacent towns of Tullahoma, Cowan and Sewanee offer a variety of scenic, historical and healthy choices. The area is rich in Native American, Civil War and Civil Rights history. There are many places to hike. Chattanooga and Huntsville, Alabama are about an hour away.
