Set on the top floor and looking out across Onetangi Bay, Apartment 8 is a bright, spacious three-bedroom, two-bathroom home with wide sea views, generous indoor–outdoor living, and an easy, relaxed feel. Just steps from the beach, it’s an ideal base for couples, friends, or families with older children wanting simple, comfortable beachfront living. Not suitable for children under 10.
The Space:
Apartment 8 is arranged to make the most of the elevated position and wide outlook. The open-plan living, dining, and kitchen area sits at the front of the home, with large windows and shutters framing long views across Onetangi Bay. Natural light fills the space throughout the day, keeping the apartment warm and bright without feeling exposed.
The lounge is furnished for relaxed seaside living, with plenty of comfortable seating and a direct view of the water. The dining area sits alongside the lounge, making shared meals easy and keeping the living level connected. The kitchen is full-size with ample bench space, open shelving, and everything needed for simple meals at home.
All three bedrooms are located privately off the main living space. The master bedroom has a king bed and receives natural light from the angled windows. The second bedroom has a queen bed, and the third bedroom includes two king single beds, making the layout practical for mixed groups. Two bathrooms with tiled showers and modern fittings make morning routines straightforward.
Apartment 8 is on the top floor and can be accessed via a lift or stairwell.

Guests also have use of the shared gas BBQs in the landscaped common area at The Sands.

Apartment 8 sits just across from Onetangi Beach, with a flat walk along the sand to local cafés and seaside dining.
Nearby breakfast and coffee options include Charlie Farley’s and the Beach Store Waiheke. For lunch, guests can choose Three Seven Two or head to The Heke, a casual modern grill and brewery set just a few minutes away. Dinner options include Ki Māha for refined beachfront dining or Casita Miro, serving Spanish-inspired shared plates overlooking the vineyards.
Close-by wineries include Tantalus Estate and Obsidian Vineyard, both offering tastings and relaxed vineyard meals.
Getting Around:
The nearest bus stop is on Fourth Avenue / The Strand.
Buses run from Onetangi, stopping close to all major wineries, including The Heke, then continuing into Oneroa and on to the Matiatia passenger ferry.
Taxis, hire cars, e-bikes, and scooters are also available. Parking is provided at the property.
Other Things to Note:
The Sands operates on rainwater tanks, so guests must be mindful of water use, especially in summer.
Apartment 8 is not suitable for children under age 10.

Smoking Policy — The Sands:
There is no smoking inside the apartment or on the balconies. External smoke detectors are fitted, and any triggered alarm that results in a Fire Brigade call-out will incur a $5,000 fee charged to the guest. Smoking is permitted only in the designated picnic area.
