Magnificent Heritage Arts and Crafts mansion set in Shaughnessy on the West Side of Vancouver. Choose daily housekeeping service at no charge. This home offers 8000 square feet on 3 floors. The very expansive view deck and gardens makes this home a luxurious oasis. It is central to all that Vancouver has to offer.
Relax in a state of grace in a very quiet exclusive neighborhood. Shaughnessy is Vancouver's safest neighborhood.
This home is new to VRBO and will suit those who appreciate the 100 year old craftsmanship and modern luxury.The large kitchen has a Wolf double oven gas range, Subzero fridge and two dishwashers.
The home is located at the top of a ridge looking out at western views and the pacific ocean in the distance. Sunsets are fabulous from the West 3 rooms and from the huge back deck. Both bedrooms with ensuites have soaker tubs.
Stroll the surrounding streets under a huge canopy of mature trees and see some of Vancouver's finest homes.
Grocery shopping is a 3 minute drive and there are all amenities close by.
The room sizes are expansive and you will have options to spread out and enjoy many spaces if you need solitude.
There is air conditioning in the 3 main bedrooms and the living room dining room and den.
This home is 10 minutes from YVR and 9 minutes from Kitsilano beach
Parking is free and plentiful on the street directly in front of the house.

My hope is that you have the most enjoyable stay you have ever experienced in the calm and relaxing setting of this Heritage home.

My first guest left me this note: "Just wanted to leave a note saying Thank You for being an amazing host! This place is wonderful with stunning views. only made better by the many amenities and considerations made by your. We appreciate it."

Perfect home base in Vancouver—quiet, elegant, and unforgettable. Absolutely perfect stay! The house is even better than the photos—spacious, comfortable, and surrounded by gorgeous gardens. The neighborhood is peaceful and tree-lined, filled with beautifully restored historic homes. Chris was incredibly responsive and thoughtful, and his recommendations made our trip extra special. If we could rate this home higher, we would—highly recommend!

This is such a lovely home! The accommodations were perfect, the house was immaculate & the gardens were stunning! The owner is respectful & incredibly responsive. We wanted for NOTHING in this home. It was stocked with anything & everything we needed - especially in the kitchen. And there were sodas & sparkling waters & coffee available when we arrived. The listing doesn't do this place justice! It will probably be the nicest VRBO I ever stay in! Our stay was perfect!!

Amazing house and location!

We couldn't have been happier with the Shaughnessy House! After two houses canceled/refunded our trip I was scrambling to get a place. Chris responded to my inquiry immediately and was extremely helpful in getting us set up, even adding three additional beds to the upstairs room, creating "private" spaces for those that had to stay in that space. We had 8 ppl and no couples so 5 rooms were a problem. He made it work for us. On top of that he brought us pastries and garden goodies every few days. We really can't say enough about the Host and the property. I would hesitate to book again. I am trying to figure out when we can go back as I write this!! Regarding the location, amazing views, and sunset. The area around the house is extremely quiet and safe. And traveling to downtown amenities was simple. I would highly recommend this property to anyone who needs a larger space.

I have lived in the Shaughnessy neighborhood of Vancouver for 25 years and love stately homes and tall trees. There is a peace and quiet here that makes it an oasis in the city.

At 12,500 sq. ft. (including unfinished basement) this home was one of the largest houses built in Vancouver between the wars. The house has a strict linear contrast between the main and upper floor. The brick cladding, with half-timbering above and the rolled-eave roof covered with steam-bent shingles to resemble thatch, are elegant references to a rustic English Arts and Crafts vernacular.


Architect
GILLINGHAM, Henry Herbert (1876-1930), a native of London, England, and born there on 25 November 1876. He trained in his father's office in London from 1893, and later assisted his brother who lived in Clacton-on-Sea, Engl. from 1898. Gillingham emigrated to Canada in 1911 and settled in Vancouver where he opened an office, although only a few of his works have been identified. He brought a decidedly English sensibility to his domestic work on the west coast, employing an eclectic Tudor Revival or English half-timber frame style for his early work. He was briefly in partnership with E. Stanley Mitton (in 1914), and with Theo Korner in 1919-20. His best known work was his conception of the striking Art Deco interiors of the famous Commodore Ballroom, Granville Street (1928-29; still standing
