Nut Cottage

Step back in time to this 70s-inspired cottage set in its own private orchard near Bushy Park.

Enjoy the luxury of soaking in a hot bath on the covered deck, whatever the weather. Perfect for couples wanting to get away from it all, or small families. You can be completely private or wander round the working walnut farm with its extensive gardens and menagerie.

Please note that while cottage has a kitchenette, there is also a firepit and BBQ outside. In keeping with the vintage theme, the cottage has a well stocked library, plenty of board games and DVDs (sorry no wifi or TV reception). While we may not have all the mod cons but actually, that's what our guests prefer! It’s a great place to dial things back and enjoy a slower pace of life with the farms seasonal variety.

The cottage has private drive access and use of it's own orchard block, complete with hammock swinging in the shade of walnut trees. Pets are welcome, please note along with our stock we also have farm dogs. The dogs are usually working with us and are locked up at night but they will greet you when you arrive (and possibly when using the BBQ).

The location was excellent, close to the beach but still remote. Very private and great for dogs with good recall.

Loved the old school ambience and peace and quiet. The bonus was the wood delivered for an evening fire under the walnut trees.

A lovely little spot, ideal for a break, away from the modern world, to chill and get away from it all. No WiFi and can't phone reception, meaning you have to make your own entertainment - no doom scrolling here!Cooking on the open fire was fun, but the place could maybe do with a bit more in the way of kitchen facilities. But we stayed for 5 days and managed fine, and really enjoyed our stay.

After travelling and working widely I returned to look after the family farm. It's a peaceful place which I am happy to share with guests.

この宿泊施設のオーナーになった理由

Whanganui has a mild climate and a laid back feel. We are next to the bird santurary - Bushy Park and there are hiking / biking trails further up the road. Saturday's Riverside Market in is a great place to shop and the Sargent Art Gallery is worth seeing while you are in town. Kai Iwi beach is 20 mins drive and the nearby Botanical Gardens are also a great place to visit.

この宿泊施設の特徴

This is a mature walnut orchard run on organic / sustainably. Our parklike grounds are home to numerous native birds and we have planted a mix of additional trees to provide suitable habitat and food for them. As well as walnuts we grow a mix of fruit which you are welcome to pick when in season.

We have chosen to keep the cottage low tech as our visitors come to get away from busy lives and prefer it that way.
