Welcome to Grangeford Retreat, our much-loved family home, now available for the first time as a short-stay escape in the heart of Trentham. Set on a peaceful 2-acre pocket of natural bushland (part of a larger country holding), this is the kind of place where you arrive, breathe out, and immediately feel the pace change.
Only around an hour and twenty minutes from Melbourne, Grangeford Retreat is perfectly positioned for a weekend reset or a longer stay. You can spend the morning in the bush, the afternoon over long lunches in town, and the evening back by the fire with the people you love.
Grangeford Retreat blends the charm of an older country home with a beautiful newer extension, designed for comfort, warmth, and easy togetherness. There’s plenty of space for multiple couples or families to stay without feeling on top of one another.
Inside you’ll find:
-4 generous bedrooms: 2 king + 2 queen
-3 bathrooms to make mornings easy- one with a large copper bath
-A large, welcoming kitchen and living area for shared meals and slow conversations
-A spacious dining room made for long-table dinners
- A cosy drawing room / lounge with an open fire
- A dedicated kids’ attic with toys and a TV (the perfect “their space” so adults can unwind)
The hero feature
The retreat’s signature is the heated magnesium indoor pool, paired with a fireplace for year-round comfort. Swim, warm up, repeat.
Wake to birdsong, spot local wildlife, and enjoy the luxury of space. Step outside for a wander around the property, or head out to explore the region’s standout nature:
- Easy forest walks nearby through the Wombat State Forest
- More challenging adventures in Lerderderg Gorge
Trentham is small, beautiful, and unexpectedly cosmopolitan, recently crowned Tiny Town of the Year (2025). Food lovers are spoilt for choice: settle in at the iconic Cosmopolitan Hotel (one of Australia’s best country pubs), grab legendary pastries from RedBeard Bakery (often listed among Victoria’s top bakeries), or book a memorable meal at Annie Smithers’ Du Fermier. Add in local cafes, wine, and country hospitality, and you’ll understand why people keep coming back.
Grangeford Retreat is ideal for couples, friend groups, and families who want a true country getaway — amenity and bush, comfort and charm, all in one place.
