As seen on ABC TV series, `Australian Restoration` (Gervasoni site) this beautifully restored old stone blacksmiths building is now a comfortable villa comprising bedroom with sitting room, bathroom, private courtyard and fenced yard with fire pit and wine barrel swing. Lovely couples retreat and pet friendly.
This recently restored historical building was once a Blacksmiths shop forming part of the heritage listed buildings of the former Gervasoni Homestead. The original blacksmiths stone building is now a large bedroom which includes a queen size bed, wardrobe, dressing table and bedside table and small table and chairs. A portable cot is available upon request. The new addition sitting room includes a 2 seater sofa. There is a TV and DVD, coffee table and magazines for your relaxation and enjoyment. The bathroom includes a bath with shower over the top. Toilet and vanity. The cupboard includes a mini-fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle and tea & coffee making facilities. Bedding and towels are provided. The rear courtyard space opens off the sitting room. A fenced yard area with fire pit, seating and wine barrel swing is accessible from the car parking space and is directly behind the courtyard. Picnic basket and marshmallow toasting equipment are available for guests to enjoy.
You have full access to the Blacksmiths and private fenced yard area. You are cool in summer with extensive insulation, metre thick stone walls and a misting fan… and super cosy in cold weather with electric blanket on the bed and electric heater... There is also a gorgeous little firebox if you want the romance of burning a little wood.
We are generally on site in an adjacent building during your stay. We have two friendly dogs who we encourage to respect your privacy but might pop over to say hello.
Our buildings are part of the rich Swiss Italian heritage of this area. These historical buildings were constructed during the gold rush era and produce from the picturesque surrounding land was sold to miners.
The closest town to us is Newstead (10 minute drive)which has a great restaurant / café `Dig`, a general store / bakery, two pubs and takeaway food. An artspace, playgrounds and the Loddon River make Newstead a very lovely little town. Guildford is also close by (12 minute drive) and has a great general store / and pub. Bigger towns are either Castlemaine (25 minutes north) or Hepburn and Daylesford (20 minutes in the opposite direction). Both great to explore with lots of interesting things to see and do along the way. We highly recommend the Daylesford market on a Sunday morning.
We allow pets but not on beds or furniture. We have chickens, donkeys and cows on the property, dogs must be under control at all times. We have two dogs of our own floating around (we try to keep them away from guests but they may come to say Gday). For safety, guests must not enter Heritage buildings work site or shed. You are welcome to feed / pet the donkeys, cows and chooks. However, please note that the donkeys do not like dogs and would likely try and stomp any dogs. Smoking outside please.
