There were bugs and spiders, also not as clean as it should be. The rug in the livingroom was so dirty it should be replaced. Livingroom furniture was very uncomfortable to sit on.There were splatters on the window over the sink and food splatters on the side of the fridge.The entire place needs to be deep cleaned and trimming needs to be done along with other yard work. I realize it is in the woods and is pet friendly but it was not worth what we paid for the stay. I forgot to mention we had to wash the blanket before we could sleep under it, it had pubic hair on it, not good!!! We will not book this place again and we were celebrating my 77 birthday, there were times I just wanted to leave but we had paid for two nights so we toughed it out! Future renters beware.

Wonderfull Stay

Our stay at The Shire was wonderful! The cabin is nice and cozy and the location is perfect. I love all the extra touches and how the cabin is so welcoming, even for our fur baby. In addition to the fenced yard, there was a cute bed and bowls waiting just for him. I can’t say enough great things, We will definitely be back!

Peaceful Weekend Birthday Getaway

I went August 15-16,2025 with my husband to celebrate our birthdays that we share close to this time. I loved the Shire! It’s close enough to town to grab a quick lunch or dinner at The Wildflower Cafe which was so quaint! ❤️ The little stone house offers the old farmhouse feels with everything you’ll need to cook, cozy blankets, grilling was a breeze with all you need, My favorite part was of course the kayaking during the day, and the hot tub at night! You just walk down the little path out back straight to the water! This location and this place as a whole was a SWEET SURPRISE offering peaceful tranquility and privacy along with all the comforts of home! I booked The Shire as a surprise getaway for my husband's 30th birthday, and it was absolutely perfect! The cabin had everything we needed—super cozy, well-stocked, and in the most peaceful, private setting. Holly - our host- was responsive, communicative, and so wonderful to work with through all of my questions . We brought our two rescue pups along and they had the best time exploring and relaxing with us. We grilled, swam in the river during the day, and made s’mores under the stars at night—it was exactly the kind of relaxing escape we were hoping for. It’s such a beautiful spot to unwind and reconnect. We’re already planning our next trip back. Highly recommend The Shire if you’re looking for a quiet, scenic place to recharge!

We absolutely loved our stay at The Shire! The fenced in yard was perfect for our dogs. We loved the direct water access and we kayaked for hours. The house had everything we needed. We will certainly come back again.

Weekend getaway

We rented this cabin for this first time in March and could not wait to come back. We took the advantage of an opening Memorial Day weekend. Once again, the cabin and amenities did not disappoint!! We love the fenced in yard for out dog. He loves it as well. He loves to swim in the creek and chase sticks. It is in a quiet place with little to no traffic. The hot tub is awesome after a long hike. We plan to come back one weekend during the fall.

Very Charming Cottage.

The Shire was the perfect stay for a few getaway days. Home was cozy, clean and all we needed. The Little River Canyon falls trail was an amazing adventure. We visited three different antique stores and a variety of specialty shops on one of our rainy days. My husband and I highly recommend visiting this area, lots of scenic views and historic sites. Book your accommodations at The Shire, it’s definitely a win win😊

Rainy weekend away

This weekend was rainy but we were able to experience so many things. The metal roof made the rain so much more enjoyable. The Shire was amazing and our pup enjoyed the fenced in yard. There were so many details tha made it feel like your own. We will be back for sure!

Perfect Family Getaway

Exactly what we were looking for! The Shire was perfect spot for our quick family get away. Close to everything but entertainment right on site. Kayaking the river - finding the old dam/waterfall, saw wildlife (deer, geese), fishing, ending the day in the hot tub then dinner around the fire. Holly was great help with ideas for entertaining a 14 yr old and things to do. Highly recommend!

Great property, great communication

We enjoyed this riverfront cabin, and the fenced in yard was perfect for our dog. The property manager was also easy to deal with, and helped us facilitate a late-notice date change with no fuss.Only good things to say! We plan on returning in the future.

Wonderful fully fenced pet friendly home

My husband and I stayed two nights with our new rescue dog and we all had a great time. The house was clean and cozy. Beds were comfortable, shower had good pressure and lots of hot water. The Shire is in an easy location to get in and out, but private enough that you feel secluded. The fenced in yard was the biggest part for us. We could let our dog outside to play knowing she was safe and couldn’t get lost. Lots of amenities like washer/dryer, hot tub, fire pit and kayaks for your use.
