Relais Château Comfort, Medieval Dreams
Having traveled extensively around the world and stayed at many beautiful places I can without reservation say that Chateaux Peyruzel was one of the most memorable places I have stayed at.
The thick stone walls, leaded windows, high ceilings, and massive beams and working fireplaces (you could roast a cow in some) fire the imagination of anyone harboring medieval fantasies while the beautiful and tasteful decoration (the castle has been published in several design magazines) and up-to-date infrastructure (wifi, satellite tv, gorgeous kitchen, etc) make it supremely comfortable.
If the castle were not part of VRBO it would be a member of the Relais Chateaux group. Indeed, Janice, the owner, could be a concierge at one. She was incredibly helpful in securing difficult reservations to must see attractions and restaurants, like the Lascaux caves and Michelin starred restaurants, took us on a personal wine tour, set up a wine tasting in St. Emilion that was the best in my life and brought us to a little out of the way village that time forgot up into the attic of a tea room that looked like Harry Potter movie set.
The only problem with the Chateaux Peyruzel is that it is located in a beautiful area with lots of wonderful attractions like a working medieval castle (trebuchet launching anyone?), beautiful gardens, markets, great biking trails, canoing, gorgeous villages that “out-Cotswold” the Cotswolds and yet because Peyruzel is so beautiful , you don't want to leave.
Oh yes, and one other problem, you might have to dodge the occasional hot air balloon (as my daughter did one morning) that soars dangerously close to your castle bringing tourists to enjoy for a few minutes, the view that you get to enjoy every minute you stay at the Chateau!
