Welcome to our home!

From our deck you have a wonderful view of Lake Chatuge. We are just a few miles from the grocery store, beautiful jackrabbit hiking and biking trails, and the charming Hayesville town square. From the house you can walk right down the hill (it’s steep!) to the lake and enjoy the dock as the sun goes down or jump right in the water when the sun comes up! There are great places on the lake to rent canoes, jet skis, boats and more. We are 5 minutes from the Ledford chapel boat launch.

Master bathroom has a king sized bed, walk in shower and double sinks. The living room is inviting with plenty of seating for movie watching or book reading. It is adorned with cozy house plants, art, and a smart tv. Since we live here we have lots of books around for you to enjoy- just please don’t take them with you when you go. You’ll find that this is our actual home so we have photos of our friends and family as well as art and decor that is not quite generic- some might even say funky.

Large kitchen table for dining. Stainless steel appliances. Lots of kitchen items including pots and pans, plenty of dishware, blenders, spices etc.

Guest rooms have queen beds and one has a desk and chair and can be used as a functioning office. There’s even a monitor if you need to get some work done. But we hope you work less and swim more. We have all new mattresses and have pressure washed the deck.

Dogs welcome. The yard is not fenced so be mindful of how far they roam.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The home was adorable and just what we were looking for. Had all the amenities of a home. If you’re looking for something that resembles a fancy five star hotel, then this isn’t the place for you. We were traveling with dogs and kids and just wanted somewhere cozy that we felt comfortable. This was perfect for us! Nice big back deck with a beautiful view! The walk to the lake was a little steep, but the dock was nice and big and the kids LOVED jumping off and swimming with the beautiful mountains in the background! Would definitely stay again!

Fantastic Owner and Property

We fell in love with this place from the moment we drove in. Ruby Beth made this a welcoming retreat from our everyday life. This is no cookie cutter rental property. We felt like we were staying at a friends' home. The view, the property and the lake made this a favorite place for us!Whether you like hiking, boating or swimming, it has it all. The sunsets are incredible, and the location is conveniently close to town.

Perfect lake getaway

Perfect getaway on the lake. Private with a dock and ramp access within 5 minutes. Crazy huge shower, comfy bed and tv in living room and main bedroom. Looking forward you staying there again.

A welcome escape from central Ga.

I booked for our Anniversary, my brother and his partner joined us for a couple of nights and my former brother in law and his wife joined us for a couple of nights. Setting was perfect for catching up and relaxing.

Beautiful lake to visit.

Great stay for the price if you dont mind a steep walk to the dock. Close to the main road which is convenient but you do hear the traffic from the deck. Fairly clean but lived in with pets, but were use to that. Needed some landscaping around the house and on the steps to the dock. Beautiful lake area.

A great value, better than listing/pics!

Had an awesome time here, great location with dock, 4 mins to boat ramp. Beautiful views and nice layout! Property needs some minor tlc but better than we imagined and truly a great value for the money. Overall clean and pet friendly. Plenty of room for multiple couples/friends or a family. Will stay here again. Cool personal decor kinda refreshing compared to most random thrown together Vrbos/bnbs.

Great View

Pictures did not do this listing justice. Property was much better than expected. Views of the lake and mountains were great. House and swimming area were very private, which is what we and our Aussie were looking for. Loved it.

Chatuge retreat

This was a great little house, dock , and trip. Our only complaint was the overall cleanliness of the place. Inside and out needs maintenance and repairs and a detailed cleaning but other than that the location and description was accurate. Driveway needs the 911 address posted to better locate and incase of an emergency. Not the worst place we’ve been would definitely consider staying again .

Comfortable home on a cozy cove

I really liked this house and would definitely return. We have a boat, and it was not very far to get to the boat ramp - and the dock at the house was perfect. It was large and had plenty of room for all our water toys and plenty of space to relax and enjoy. It was nice to be at the end of a private cove for swimming and playing in the water. The owner was extremely responsive, kind and helpful. One of the best I have ever worked with when renting properties (and I've rented a bunch.) The house was welcoming and lovely. The pictures and description were very accurate - no surprises. A great place for a lake vacation!

Labor Day Vacay

The location is amazing. The home just needs so TLC. Loved the decks and dock. The kitchen really needs organized and someone to throw out expired items from the refrigerator. The linen closet also needs organzing. Please take some time and organize things and CLEAN! If you are considering this rental bring pillows, towels and washcloths because they are lacking. Also bring clorox wipes because you are going to need them! Loved the location and set up but its dirty!

NC Lake Stay

House: lots of room, good wifi and T.V. Bed were comfortable with good liens. Lacking towels only had 3 and no wash cloths. Small yard, but enough to walk doggos, nice deck. Had a great sunset one night. The dock is nice and large, we used the swim ladder to get into our floats to swim and to get into/out of our kayaks. Lake: Very warm water looked clean, but visability is low due to depth, no actual kayak launch or shore access. if you go to the right of the dock (from the water) their is a place that is more swimmable as it has a short shore area, also directly across the dock is a small beach with a small area to swim before it drops off. About a half mile 20-30 minute kayak row, there is an Island, Merry Island I believe: with the best swimming area has a beach with sand and can swim out aways before it drops off.

Perfect R&R Weekend

Please ignore the negative comments about this house. It was lovely - lived in and homey. Killer view, Killer location. Great dock. Nice kitchen. Very private. It was like walking into your friends house and feeling at home right away. The hosts have chosen to leave their personal items - food, booze, pictures, etc. up and out. There was even a $20 bill under a magnet on the fridge. I'm guessing their philosophy is all about sharing and trust, which I think in today's world we need more of. You can tell they are welcoming, inclusive and loving people by the wifi password alone! And for us, that meant the house had a great energy and added to our experience. If you want to spend your day floating on the lake, reading on the deck, or cruising around the beautiful mountains of North Carolina/Georgia, you can't do better.

Just ok.

The house was not exactly what tge pictures looked like. Could not see much of the lake because the trees has not been cut in years, blocking your view. No cushions on lounge chairs, & bees nest in umbrella. Deck was dirty, needs pressure washing & at least swept! House was very uncomfortable to say the least. Soap in soap dishes in both bathrooms, if I hadn’t been so grossed out, I would’ve thrown them away! Dead plants all over the house. Cob Webs, don’t think house had been cleaned in some time!! Very uncomfortable to sleep in bed. Personal pictures everywhere, we felt like we were intruding. I could go on, but to say the least, we will be Leary of VRBO from now on. This place was not worth the money. Very disappointed.

More cons than pros

When we first booked this house, there were only a couple reviews. We gave the benefit of doubt, huge mistake on our part. We really wanted to give a 5 star, but this was the first rental that I felt had so many things going on that couldn’t just be ignored. First day we got there we went through the reviews again and agreed with quite a few. Biggest thing, if you are allergic to cats, definitely look elsewhere. Within an hour I had to take allergy meds because my allergies were going crazy. Taking a closer look around the house, you can see it was just dirty. Cat hair left along the baseboards, on carpets, around and under furniture, and I’m not talking like a few pieces, it was a thick noticeable layer. We literally swept the house when we first got there. You could see the house was “cleaned”, but like a half way cleaning on only traffic areas. On top of that, then the house smelled of cat urine. On even more top, we had to clean every dish we used first as they were dirty. The pan had residual grease, spatula had crusted dried chocolate, other silverware were dirty. Inside cabinets had dirt and spiderwebs. Spiderwebs along floors going from plants to the sofa. Trash can was filthy and smelled, and you have to take your trash bags into the city, and pay to dump it. There was half eaten left overs left in fridge. The toaster looks like it’s never been cleaned since it was bought. I get that this is a secondary home of the owner, but this is also a business and should be treated as such. Too much personal items, felt very cluttered, very political. While we have same views I feel from a business stand point some thing should be put away. Driveway is extremely difficult to navigate if you are towing a boat/trailer/jet skis. Deck needs some tlc, just a really good power washing and not like what was previously attempted. The only good thing was the location.

Not terrible but could definitely use some help!

The view was great and we like the area. The driveway was awful, there is no yard. My sister-in-law said her sheets had blood stains so we had to go buy sheets. The refridgerator had to be cleaned to put our food in it and the drawers and cubbards were dirty. Towels were tattered and worn and our hand soap was watered down, linen closet had everything bunched ip and stuffed in there, not even nicely folded. Just not a place that I would be proud to say was mine. I think it could be nice if they applied some TLC. Too much money for what you got.

Great getaway

Our whole family came for a last summer weekend and we had a great time. We were 6 adults and twin 8 yr olds and it accommodated us well. It would be nice if the driveway was marked with a number though, it’s a little tricky. Great fishing right off the dock! Thanks for sharing your home!

Great location, and view with lake access.

Really enjoyed our visit and the view and lake where very relaxing. While it is a steep walk to the lake you can drive down, too. The dock is very nice with kayaks to enjoyed the lake. The kitchen is well equipped and stocked. My only negative was the need to clean the kitchen area when I arrived. Also, the carpet in the guest bedroom need cleaning or replacing which had stains.

Great property but needs some work.

A lot of pros and cons about this rental. Pros are gonna be that this is an awesome house. Good location to town, right on the water if your into the lake life. Nice big dock and plenty of great fishing in the cove that the property sits on. Reasonably priced except for the cleaning fee. Cons, there’s a few more con to the pros. For a cleaning fee that’s more than a nights rental, you would think it would be immaculate and it was far from it. Coffee spilt on the cabinets, trash in the trash can, (which you have to take and pay to dispose of at the local convenience center at checkout) open and expired food in both the refrigerator/freezer as well as the pantry. I’ve read the reviews from prior renters and one suggested that the deck outside should be pressure washed. The whole house actually needs to be pressure washed. The owners replied that they have since had it done which was kinda true. Looked more like a child was drawing with the sprayer instead of actually cleaning. The cushions for the outdoor furniture were in the carport like they said but were torn and un usable. Dirty soap dishes hidden under the bathroom sinks instead of discarded was another issue brought up in the reviews. Guest bathroom shower drain was slow so you are standing in about five inches of water by the time you were done showering. Water pressure in the kitchen sink was almost nonexistent, took about fifteen minutes to fill up the sink so you could wash dishes. Huge hornets nest in the carport which could be deadly to some people. Big dock but needs some major repairs. A lot of structural support underneath the boards was missing making It very sketchy to be on. Always feel like your going through when you step in certain places. Driveway was a little more than a goat path. Not much can be done with that except maybe pave it so it doesn’t require four wheel drive to pull out of it with a boat. Description could also note that if you are pulling in with a boat or trailer to back down the driveway as there is absolutely no way to turn it around once down the hill. I understand that it is a second home to the owners but personal effects around everywhere were a little overwhelming. If your going to rent on VRBO you would think that you would be politically neutral but this house, even down to the Wi-Fi password was politically motivated. Just did not feel like a good vacation home to me. Would like to stay again but highly unlikely unless a lot of changes are made. By
