Jim is an active birder, loving to hike and collect new sightings of the many variety of birds in the area.
Both of us love the ocean and the waters here are described by my Mexican friends as 'delicious'! Kayaking, snorkelling, fishing, swimming, whale watching are some of the activities we enjoy. A variety of excellent restaurants are nearby and in the tourist season offer a variety of musical venues. We love to dance to live music!
There are many opportunities to be involved in a meaningful way through volunteer work with the community. For example, we started Jaltemba Bay Animal Rescue and have so far sterilized over 3500 animals in less than 6 years in a number of free spay and neuter clinics. Free food, medicine, medical support, adoptions and education is offered through donations from the community and friends afar. Volunteering in the schools, community or with my clinics while on vacation can be a very insightful way learn about a new culture!
Also, I am an artist. The rich colours, and interesting sights offer many inspirations!
Jim and I also love to travel. Los Ayala is within easy distance of a number of small villages such as Sayulita, San Francisco, and El Monteon as well as some of the larger centres such as San Blas, Tepic, Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta. There are petroglyphs, natural hot springs, trips to view flora and fauna, and historic sites all within a days' travel.
