Perfect weekend getaway

A pleasant stay at the beach

This is a nice, no-frills beach house close to the water. Everything was as described, great communication with the host, and overall, a great experience.

Wonderful beach stay

This is within walking distance of the beach; it's quiet and exactly as advertised. The AC works GREAT; wonderful after a day in the sun on the beach. The wrap around porch is perfect, with seati.g areas set up around the porch so you can sit in the best spot for the time of day.

The house was exactly as advertised. Clean and comfy with a great wrap-around deck. The owner was very responsive. Overall a great place.

The Good the bad and the ugly

The Good, was the quick replies when contacting the owner with issues. And walking distance to the beach. The bad was the house has lots of issues we addressed some of them and not all issues were taken care of, so we didn't bother telling them the rest. The ugly is, the property is in poor condition there was a short in an electrical socket that made the ceiling fan and light cut on and off when we tried to take the child safety plug cover out. They did send someone to fix it the next morning but we worried about it all night. There was no light on the stairs the 1st night and its needed, they fixed it when they did the electrical socket, but we couldn't turn it off when it wasn't needed and it lights up the larger bedroom all night long. There are blinds but no curtains so you cant block out any light. The shower walls were dirty in the smaller bathroom, and the slip mat had black stuff that I would assume is mold run out from under it when we ran the water. There are lights on the deck that have open wires to them. There are porch lights that we asked how to turn on to use outside at night on the deck that never worked. The lights in the larger bedroom flickered on and off when the switch for them was on. When they did come fix the electrical socket we were not there, but our stuff was and they left the door unlocked when they left. There was a closet door broken off and laying inward like it had fallen, they said they would fix it and didn't. There is no place to set a bag, or suitcase or even hang up your clothes in the smaller bedroom. There are gaps around the edges of the deck up next to the house that we were worried about our kids getting their legs down in so we had to keep them off parts of the deck. We couldn't use the downstairs area in the evening because not only was there no light, it smelled of sewage and anytime someone flushed the toilet and it would even bubble up with a horrible smell. We received a message on the day we were traveling down there that, we need mosquito spray, and that the water wasnt really drinkable and we should bring plenty of water. That should have been sent earlier. Also we were expected to wash our own linens after to help with turn around time. I dont agree with that at all. How do you know they are done properly and sanitized? We considered leaving multiple times and had there been any chance of a refund or a place to go we would have. But it was to far from home and to much money to lose.

Relaxing Reboot

We've stayed all over the coast but not Freeport... If your looking for something quiet on the water but still has everything within a 20min drive, this is the place! It was very quiet & friendly. Clean beach across from the house. Good fishing! This is TX, so bring citronella candles :-) ! Overall our stay was very pleasant. We didn't bring our dog, but she would've loved the doggy door!!

Quiet location, minutes from beach

Kudos to the property owner who was quick to respond to my questions, suggestions, and requests beginning even before we committed to renting and continuing through our 4 night stay. This is an older home, with some basic but recent updates, and includes extras like wifi, an outdoor grill, and laundry. House was clean and simply furnished, beds were comfortable, kitchen was stocked with all necessary items for prep, cooking, and serving, and there were more than enough fluffy towels to go around (both bath and beach). 360* wrap around porch would have been perfect for nighttime lounging if it weren’t for the abundance of mosquitos. The master bedroom did not cool as well as the rest of the house but was made bearable by placing a fan in doorway to help circulate the air. Although all bedding was provided, there were no extra blankets so if you like to wrap up while watching TV on the couch, be sure to bring your own. With the promise of a full size refrigerator on its way the week following our stay, we will definitely look to rent this house again in coming summers. Thank you to Valarie for being such an accommodating host!
