Hvalfjarðarsveit Cottage with Large Wooden Deck, Mountain View + Great Location

Remote, quiet location, yet only 40 minutes from Reykjavík.
Our Cottage is located in West Iceland with a view over Lake Eiðisvatn, the Hvalfjörður fjord and the spectacular mountains around the fjord.
It's behind the small village of Melahverfi, which is signposted on the ring road and around 15 minutes away from Akranes.

In autumn and winter, this is also a good place to watch the Northern Lights.
Although the view is wonderful, you can't help but see an aluminium plant a few kilometres away. We don't mind this sight - we live in our house next to the Cottage.

Our cottage has a spacious living, dining and kitchen area, 1 bathroom (sink, toilet and shower) and 2 bedrooms. In one bedroom can sleep 3 people, the other 2 people.
The large veranda with panoramic view also invites you to linger.

You can park your car on our property directly in front of the parking sign for guests.
The path on the left side leads past our house, directly to the Cottage.

Die Lage ist hervorragend; etwa eine dreiviertel Stunde Fahrzeit bis Reykjavik. Der Blick auf den See mit Vogelgezwitscher ist Entspannung pur. Mit den deutschen Gastgebern konnte man prima über Land und Leute reden und so etwas mehr als nur aus dem Reiseführer über das Leben in Island erfahren. Hilfreich waren auch die vielen Tipps zu sehenswerten Zielen in der Umgebung. Das Cottage ist super ausgestattet; sogar ein eigenes Kräutergärtchen hat man als Gast vor der Tür. Und sollte etwas fehlen, so kann man jederzeit an die Gastgeber herantreten.

Lovely cottage with a gorgeous view

The cottage was accurately described. It's in a beautiful location with amazing views. Conveniently located to get a head start on a drive around the Snaefellsness peninsula. The hosts are friendly. Communication was easy. Would definitely stay here again.

Home with a view

This home is spacious and clean with a fantastic view. The open concept living room with windows all across the front is a perfect place for family to relax after a long day of exploring. The kitchen is large and fully equipped to prepare any meal. I would highly recommend this property for a family of 4 or 5 people.

A Delightful Little Spot

What a wonderful little cottage and great jumping of point for a number of places. The cottage was very cute, quite clean and Katrin was very kind and helpful. Highly recommend!

Wonderful Cottage

We only had a short stay, but the host was just fabulous! Very clean and well cared for, spacious enough for a family of 5. The cottage was so charming, we wished we had longer to stay. When we have to opportunity to return to Iceland, we will try and stay here again.

Lovely, comfortable cottage

We had a lovely time. We stayed 3 nights. We visited Reykjavik and did whale watching. We also visited thermal pools and waterfalls. But more importantly we were lucky enough to see the Northern lights from the cottage. Katrin explained to walk up the drive and look over the mountains. My husband downloaded an app that alerted us to the lights and we ran up the drive to see them. Fantastic! The cottage was very clean and had everything we needed. The bedrooms are small but the beds are very comfortable. The cottage is only around 40 min from Reykjavik and that was ideal. We felt very comfortable there. Thank You.

Great cabin!

This was the perfect home Base for our first trip to Iceland! Great shower pressure!! We cooked many of our meals in the small but well stocked kitchen. Definitely book if your considering!

Just as described

The property was just as described. We had no problem getting here from the airport. Kathrin and Klaus were great hosts, they answered any questions we had and gave recommendations based on our aspirations. We came here for 10 days to celebrate our 10th. Anniversary 🎉 We accomplished seeing too many things to mention but some of the highlights were, aurora borealis-right from the property, diamond Beach, horseback riding on black sand beach in Vik, geysir, glaciers, volcanoes (unfortunately none erupting at the time we were there-next time!), caves, many, many waterfalls and so much more. I highly recommend that you stay here !!!

Perfect end to a wonderful trip

My daughter and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The location is great - peaceful and serene yet easy access to multiple destinations. The cottage is charming and nicely appointed - had everything we needed. We enjoyed sitting in the comfy furniture and gazing out at the view. Hosts were delightful and had some great recommendations. Already planning to return next year with my husband and we will definitely stay here.

Landhaus mit traumhaftem Seeblick

Dieses Landhaus hat alles, was man braucht, um sich nach anstrengenden Tagesausflüge zu erholen und die Ruhe zu genießen. Die Küche ist gut ausgestattet, hat sogar einen Backofen. Die Terrasse ist ein Traum, von dieser sowie vom Esszimmertisch, hat man einen wunderschönen Ausblick/Weitblick über einen See. Trotz der ruhigen Lage ist das Landhaus ein sehr guter Ausgangspunkt für viele Ausflüge. Ein großes Dankeschön, geht an die sehr freundlichen Gastgeber „Klaus und Katrin“, die uns herzlich empfangen haben. Wir konnten uns mit ihnen sehr gut über das wunderschöne Island unterhalten.

Only one and a half kilometer away form highway 1, countless spectacular places can be visited.
