Located in the beautiful, canal-side town of Poilhes in the Languedoc Region in the South of France, La Fontaine has been tastefully renovated from a former winemaker's estate to a contemporary holiday home, retaining its original charm but now with the advantage of modern conveniences. Featuring a private swimming pool (open from late April to beginning October), three bedrooms each with an en-suite bathroom, a spacious sun-soaked courtyard, and a flower-lined entrance, La Fontaine is perfect for a flexcation/staycation or as a home base to discover the extraordinary Languedoc Roussillon region. La Fontaine is perfectly situated as the courtyard gets much sunlight throughout the day, yet because of the stone structure, the house does not overheat and stays cool during the warm summer period. The enclosed courtyard walls offer protection from the wind. Free street parking is available nearby/a minute’s walk from the house.


Surrounded by vineyards, the picturesque village of Poilhes with its 500 inhabitants, is just the place to spend a calm, relaxing holiday. The Canal du Midi, which flows through the center of Poilhes, is located steps away from La Fontaine. This beautiful area is just 20 minutes from the long, sandy beaches of the Mediterranean and 30 minutes from the mountainous Haut Languedoc national park. There is a small shop and three restaurants in the town for your convenience.

A hidden gem

We can’t believe how lucky we were to find this property for our holiday. It is enormous! So beautifully decorated and furnished. We were in heaven from start to finish. Serena and Tobias could not have been more helpful - from pre arrival information about things to do in the area, to on-hand advice and help during our actual stay. The pool is wonderful, a perfect size. And there is so much to do and see in this region of France. We only wish we could have stayed longer!

Besonderes Haus mit herzlichem Empfang

Wir haben wundervolle Ferien im Ferienhaus von Serena und Tobias verbracht! Der Empfang durch die Gastgeber war sehr warmherzig und unkompliziert. Das Haus und seine Ausstattung ließen keine Wünsche offen - die Küche ist bestens ausgestattet, die Betten waren bequem, das Elternschlafzimmer und das Zimmer unter dem Dach sind mit einer Klimaanlage ausgestattet. Auch Technik-Begeisterte kommen auf ihre Kosten mit einer schönen Soundanlage sowie Beamer und Leinwand für Filmabende. Auch viele Brettspiele sind vorhanden. Nicht nur die Kinder waren begeistert von dem tollen, großen Pool! Die Terrasse ist sehr schön, es findet sich den ganzen Tag über ein schattiges Plätzchen. Das Dorf Poilhes ist sehr angenehm, es gibt drei Restaurants und eine Epicerie, die sehr leckere Backwaren verkauft. Der nächste Supermarkt ist mit dem Auto keine 5 Minuten entfernt im Nachbarort. Insgesamt hatten wir tolle Ferien und danken Serena und Tobias für ihren Empfang. Wir können das Ferienhaus uneingeschränkt weiter empfehlen!

Sehr schönes großes Haus mit traumhaften Pool

Wir waren zu viert in diesem wunderschönen Haus und haben die Zeit sehr genossen. Tobias und Serena waren sehr nette und aufmerksame Gastgeber und immer erreichbar. Tobias hat uns sehr herzlich empfangen und alles erklärt, was es in dem großen Haus zu wissen gibt. Ans Meer sind es 30 min., einen großen Supermarkt gibt es in Capestang (10 min.), wir haben immer selbst gekocht in der großen, bestens ausgestatteten Küche. Das Haus innen ist superschön und liebevoll eingerichtet mit ganz vielen tollen Details, hohen Räumen, wunderschönen Stuckdecken und Steinböden. Am tollsten war natürlich der wunderschöne Innenhof mit super Pool, Sonnenliegen und großem Tisch mit Sonnenschirm. Schatten findet sich zu jeder Tageszeit, im Haus bleibt es auch relativ kühl im Sommer, allerdings war es im Dachgeschoss schon sehr heiß, aber es gibt Ventilatoren und im Hauptschlafzimmer Air Condition. Wir bedanken uns herzlich für die schöne Zeit in La Fontaine!

FABULOUS!

We have just returned from a wonderful week in Poilhes. The house is truly STUNNING, it exceeded our expectations. All the rooms are spacious (especially the enormous master suite), it is beautifully furnished and decorated and is very well equipped with everything you need (towels, hairdryers etc). The courtyard garden and pool are just beautiful, a real oasis of peace and tranquillity. The house is in the centre of the village, right on the canal du midi and has a small shop where you can buy fresh pastries daily and other basics. A large supermarket in Capestang is only five minutes drive away. The three restaurants in the village serve classic French food and we cannot recommend the friendly staff at Vinauberge highly enough. The house owners couldn't have been more helpful in the run up to our visit and for the duration of our stay. We visited Pezenas on market day (highly recommend) and Beziers, we hired a boat on the canal at Colombiers (10 mins drive) and loved the beach at Valras plage which is only 30 mins drive away. We had a fantastic holiday and would highly recommend this stunning house and its location to anyone. We very much hope to return in the near future.

Beautiful house in an excellent location. Spotlessly presented and full of character - we would have loved to know more about the history of the property. We had a wonderful time exploring the area always returning to the pool in the sheltered courtyard garden. We would thoroughly recommend this property but not for very young children as there are a lot of steps. Our grandchildren were 6 and 8 and the property was fine for them. We will definitely be returning. Thank you Serena and Tobias.

Vidunderligt hus og hyggelig by

Det er et super smukt og smagfuldt indrettet hus som ligger inden hyggeligste lille by. Pool og terrassen var skøn. Vi savnede dog et sted hvor man om dagen kunne købe en kaffe og en is. Alt i alt et vidunderligt sted som vi absolut gerne vil tilbage til.

Tolle Unterkunft!

Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt in diesem Haus. Der Pool ist perfekt, das Haus sehr sauber und gepflegt. Perfekte Kommunikation mit dem Vermieter. Restaurants in der Nähe zu empfehlen. Alles war sehr sauber und hat extrem gut gerochen, vor allem Handtücher und Bettwäsche. Wir werden definitiv wiederkommen.

Classic French!

This is a stunning property in a great location. The canal du midi is beautiful and the little shop across the bridge had fresh bread and croissants every morning. The lady behind the counter became my friend over the week.... so friendly. The house was perfect for our needs and the pool amazing. The property was almost too big for a family of four. It felt as though we had really touched traditional French living. The beaches were between 20- 60 minutes away depending on where you go and of course you can’t come to their area without going to Carcassonne. The only let down for us were the restaurants within the village as the food was average and quite expensive however that is our personal taste and there aren’t plenty to choose from in other locations near by. Thank you for a wonderful stay with attentive hosts (the bottle of wine ok arrival was a dream!)

Home from home

A beautiful home in a very pretty, peaceful village on the banks of the Canal du Midi, this house offers everything you could possibly want for a relaxing holiday. As you enter the front garden, you are greeted by the beautiful smell of honeysuckle and jasmine, which sets the scene for things to come. The house itself reflects the grandeur of its past whilst offering all the modern conveniences of today. The owners of the property, Renaud and Monique, were kind enough to show us around the extended property, at the same time giving us the history of the house, which we all found very interesting, and we must also thank them for the welcoming bottle of wine on arrival, which was put to good use almost immediately! The kitchen/diner/living space was perfect for socialising, and the kitchen was very well equipped. French doors lead out to a grand flight of stone steps which takes you to the private, peaceful courtyard, where we spent most of our time either in the large swimming pool, relaxing on the terrace with a glass of wine, or eating al fresco. Upstairs, the rooms are large and spacious with plenty of storage and very comfy beds. All bedrooms are ensuite, which was perfect for us as a two-couple party,the main bedroom being more of a private suite than an ensuite bedroom-very luxurious! The village of Poilhes is very peaceful. There are three good restaurants, all serving excellent food, and a local shop, and there is a lovely walk along the banks of the canal into Capestang, which would take about an hour to do at a leisurely pace. Capestang itself has two supermarkets, Intermache at one end and Lidl at the other. There are also several restaurants here - La Grille on the square offers the perfect steak at a very reasonable price! We also visited Carcassonne, (about one hours drive away and well worth the visit), Beziers, (about twenty minutes drive away), Roquebrun, with beautiful views and canoeing on the river (about half hour's drive away) and Marseillan, a coastal town about forty minutes drive away. At the end of the day though it was always good to "come home" to La Fontaine. If we had to make a small suggestion, it would be to have a downstairs loo which would save having to run through the house from the pool, but this is a very minor inconvenience in such a beautiful house. Overall a truly unique French experience in a charming house that always felt like home from home.

Beautiful French Getaway!

Myself, my husband and our two teenage children have just returned from an idyllic week in this stunning property! The house, gardens and pool were all beyond our expectation and most days it was difficult to drag ourselves out to explore beautiful France. The house is stylishly presented, immaculately clean and super comfortable. The kitchen is brilliantly equipped and we all slept very well in the cosy beds. The highlight of this wonderful home is undoubtably the swimming pool which was far bigger than we expected, with a great selection of garden furniture for relaxing and dining. We had never visited southern France before but will most certainly be back! Poilhes proved to be a fantastic base and we visited the beach, experienced market day in Capestang and particularly enjoyed a visit to the catherdral in Béziers with its fantastic views over the French countryside. The village itself is very peaceful and we enjoyed a lovely walk along the canal. If you’re looking for a relaxed and authentic French experience then we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this stunning home from home!

Absolutely perfect!

We (a family of four and a little dog) spend a wonderful week in that beautiful house near the Canal du Midi. We felt at home from the very first moment! Located in the charming little village Poilhes, close to Béziers and not far away from the sandy Mediterranean beaches it is the holiday home we were always looking for. It is a tranquil, spacious, comfortable and very well equipped house with a stunning interior and the typical french charme. Most of all we liked spending lazy sunny days in the secluded garden by the pool. Thanks so much Monique and Reinoud! We will definitely come back next summer!

Wonderful!

Beautiful house in pretty village by the canal with lovely helpful welcoming hosts. We had a few days of sun and loved basking by the pool on the secluded pretty terrace and some colder evenings when we lit the fire and settled down in the lovely sitting room. We enjoyed the lovely character of the house as well as all mod cons coffee machine etc. A great base for exploring this fantastic region. Thanks so much Monique and midi Maison.

Lovely Townhouse in a little village

We've stayed there in September for 10 days. The house is fully equipped and has a lovely interior garden with a swimming pool. Located in a very small village directly on the main road. Bicycle tours are a "must" along the Canal du Midi. We do love this area in Southfrance for several years now and will always come back. Thanks to Reinoud for his adhoc support and help! The house was lovely it had everything we needed. a very spacious house with a secluded garden which gets the sun all day . poilhes is nice and quiet but close to towns and beaches . the owner was at the end of the phone for any queries . this is a property that we will return too.

Das Ferienhaus liegt im Ortskern von Poilhes und ist sehr gemütlich. Alles was man benötigt ist vorhanden. Das Haus läd zum Verweilen auf der Terrasse oder im Pool ein und man kann entspannung pur genießen. Wir hatten mit den Vermieteren sehr netten E-Mail-kontakt und alles hat wunderbar geklappt. Wir werden auf jeden Fall wieder kommen.
