## Emplacement
In the south-west of Corsica, Ajaccio, capital of the island of beauty and city of art and history, proudly displays its identity. White sandy beaches, shady squares, colourful markets and lively café terraces: everything contributes to an immersion in a Mediterranean atmosphere.
The old town is separated from the other districts by the place de Gaulle, a must-see location located near the beach. Decorated with the monument to Napoleon and his brothers, it is the scene of many concerts and animations, especially in summer, and winter, it hosts the Christmas market. The cathedral of Ajaccio, with its bright orange facade and trompe-l'oeil frescoes, is also a highlight of the old town.
The port is the other vibrant heart of the Corsican capital. Soak up the colours and atmosphere of the island by stopping at a café terrace or enjoying a local specialty. The morning will enjoy the animation of the return of fishing and nocturnal festive evenings.
The last asset of the city, and not the least, is that of its exceptional beaches. Located at the foot of the ramparts of the Genoese citadel, the beach of Saint-François, in the city center, offers a superb view over the bay of Ajaccio. Other beaches, such as Trottel, Terra Sacra, Ariadne, Ricanto and many others, are equally welcoming. The sumptuous gulf of Ajaccio, where the city is nestled, stretches from the tip of the Parata and its Sanguinaires islands to the Capo di Muro. It is one of the most important gulfs on the island and also home to the charming seaside resort of Porticcio on its southern shore.
