If you enjoy kitesurfing, you can contact Jérôme from Kite Alizé, a very friendly Frenchman living in Diego. A trip to the Emerald Sea is a must; it's a remarkable site and well-suited for diving. A visit to the three bays is a typical excursion, usually best done by ATV (or with a 4x4). Other excursions are possible; ATV tour operators will certainly suggest other places to see if you have the time. The "French Mountain" is a rocky massif with panoramic views around the bay. The Red Tsingy of Irodo is also a site to see, not far from Diego Suarez; renting a car would be best. There are also 2 National Parks in the region: 1) Amber Mountain National Park, located about 40 km south of Diego-Suarez/Antsiranana (accessible in ≈ 45 minutes by road); This is one of the closest parks to the city. PGJyPg Tropical rainforest on a volcanic massif, with waterfalls, crater lakes, and rich biodiversity (birds, lemurs, reptiles). Very accessible for day trips or guided hikes.
