Friends Reconnecting and Exploring the Mountains

4 friends got to reconnect this weekend at this beautiful home at Rodes Farm. This was the perfect location to sample the craft beer scene (5 breweries with 10 min of the home), easy access to several restaurants, and plenty of space to hangout, play poker and sleep. The images online were exactly what we saw upon walking in. The AC was cool and comfortable all day and the TV was updated to accommodate streaming so we could watch sports in real time. The fixtures have been updated especially the fridge and dishwasher. We found the property owners were very communicative and timely so we could know what was needed before and after visiting. The views from the house were beautiful as it’s tucked away on a hill surrounded by mountains. The beds, sheets and towels were clean and fluffy and only needed to bring shampoo/soap for our stay. Though an older property, there’s a mountain charm about it and fun to be part of this family’s property with movies, stories and restaurant recommendations provided. We will be coming back for a winery tasting, another round of the local pizza joint and the new coffee/pastry/breakfast shop with 4 min of the property.

A perfectly quiet place to rest

We needed a place to stay while in the area for a family funeral and this house was perfect. We couldn’t stomach the idea of a loud hotel, and this charming home was exactly what we needed. We enjoyed every moment we spent here.

Excellent location; great value

Enjoy your time at this rustic, yet well stocked, cabin-like home. The owners were very responsive and there was a great amount of helpful literature on places to hike, eat and drink! Beds were comfortable; home was clean.

5 adults fit comfortably. Great location, very quiet even with a big event beside the house. Watch people riding horses all around. Host was responsive and super nice. Thanks for a great stay.

Perfect Getaway Spot

Me and a few of my friends were looking for a quiet place to stay while visiting the bold Rock Jeep festival. This place was the perfect location. It had everything we needed to enjoy our weekend. Do you only thing I would recommend would be to add a grill. We really enjoyed the back porch where we could play card games and enjoy each other's company. I would definitely stay here again!

Perfect cabin retreat

The cabin is not luxurious but is charming and cozy. It was the perfect retreat for my adult children after the funeral of their father. We were able to decompress and enjoy time together and a beautiful walk to the pond. The cabin is surprisingly well stocked with every kitchen utensil and even olive oil which I had forgotten! The VHS movie collection is amazing. We loved it here

Perfectly Rustic with an amazing location

We really enjoyed this cabin! It’s not glamorous but functional and clean and everything a mountain cabin should be. The wood stove worked great and heated the place exceptionally well, we cooked full meals and had a nice touch football game in the front field. Bonus: VHS player and videos to watch in all their grainy glory! Would definitely come back and recommend to friends!

Short Reunion

I have stayed here numerous times, and I enjoy each visit. They had just shampooed the carpet and have added a new smart TV. Both added to the quaintness of this place that is in the perfect location. It is in the middle of all of the restaurants, wineries, and breweries. It is also so nice to look at the window and see horses . Great Place!!!

All of the facilities were there as described on the VRBO listing. The location for peace and quiet excellent. Owner extreamly responsive and helpful to questions and verified that we were OK. All cell phone and internet service worked perfectly. TV programming was a bit of a challenge but we resolved it. House usage instructions and area information outstanding. Only drawback was that couch had damage but was going to be replaced. Carpet in kitchen needs refurbishing. Otherwise a great stay and we enjoyed the country scenery and screened in porch

Appreciate the responsive and friendly host, well-equipped kitchen, clear instructions for TV/DVD/VCR and for thermostat, good info on surrounding area. Beautiful surroundings at Rodes Farm, great community pool, and nice house.

Hello! We are the Schilling family and we have owned our house at Rodes Farm since 1977 . Our father, Fritz, was born and raised in Nelson County and enjoyed being a Wintergreen homeowner for many years and now we respectfully and graciously, continue to own and love this special family home. I, Kathryn Schilling Oakes will be happy to answer any questions you may have and would love to be able to accommodate you in this beautiful area of Virginia.

The history of our rental home is probably a unique one......this was my grandad’s house, which he moved into after selling his home a few miles down the road. Fred was here when Wintergreen's valley area was first beginning. Those were the days where the historical brick home on the hill was 'Marguerite's Inn' serving the most delicious meals around! Grandad was one of the many characters and 'staples' of this community in those days. Fritz, my father, inherited the home, and since his passing, my siblings and I continue to own and keep it in the family. This house and area mean a great deal to us. We have so much fun here relaxing, going to the Sat. market, swimming, playing tennis,hiking,wine tasting,and my daughter even learned how to ski here! Our memories go way back, and we hope we can provide you with some beautiful ones as well!

One of our favorite things to do while here is just sitting on the back screen porch in the late afternoon with some wine and conversation. We have a gorgeous view of the barn, mountains,trees, and an occasional deer. You may even see some of the excellent horseback riding staff walking the horses back to one of the many pastures.......we love seeing the horses!
