GUEST WING BY THE RIVER ~2 Q Bedrooms
Two Queen bedrooms, den and porch in the only New Orleans neighborhood where you can walk beside ships and barges on the Mississippi River levee! Private, Spacious & Convenient to Mardi Gras, Jazz Fest, French Quarter and festivals. Park in driveway. Peaceful sleeping to sounds of The River.
10 minutes by Lyft or Uber to Bourbon Street.
Microwave, fridge, coffee makers, NOT a full kitchen
Guests over 24, please, with bio in profile, not just hometown.
Please read listing prior to booking.
The space
The Guest Wing really is By The River!! Colorful, roomy, and conveniently located. In addition to 2 Queen bedrooms, gallery, and den that are your private retreat, you get an outdoor bonus; This is the only part of New Orleans where you can walk on "The Levee," right beside the Mississippi River! You can practically reach out and touch tugboats pushing barges, freighters from all over the world, and even see enormous cruise ships sailing by.
Both roomy bedrooms open from the hall, not “shotgun style” like many New Orleans homes.
We are located a short hop -10 minutes- to the action of Bourbon Street, but quiet at night like a country village. A few chickens have been known to wander around the neighborhood.
Free parking right in the driveway is a big plus! No driving around hoping to find a parking spot like in the more congested neighborhoods.
You have a private porch with a table, chairs, and umbrella. It is a wonderful place to enjoy morning coffee, or an evening refreshment, while catching a glimpse of ships on The River. You can hear a wide variety of birds singing in the huge oak trees behind us. ** Please keep conversation quiet on the porch at night, as we are very close to our neighbors.
If you want to walk to bars and restaurants, this is NOT the right place for you. This is a quiet, residential neighborhood. It is pure New Orleans character, without the craziness and expense of the French Quarter. You get more room for less money, but please be sure you will be happy with our location. If you really want the excitement of the French Quarter, that is where you should stay.
PLEASE NOTE that we have a microwave, fridge, electric tea pot, and coffee makers in the den; NOT a full kitchen. Plan on breakfast, lunch and snacks in the Guest Wing, and dinner in a fabulous New Orleans restaurant. The Guest Wing is not suitable for visitors who want to cook meals at home, but it is perfect for culinary exploration in one of the world’s most exciting cities. New Orleans has wonderful cuisine everywhere!
This is an "elevated house," constructed as a plantation home 6 and 1/2 feet above grade, probably before the Civil War. Stairs are part of the charm, and give guests a wonderful vantage point from which to watch ships on the river. Our sincere apologies to people with mobility challenges who find stairs difficult. Our home is probably not right for you. However, once inside there are no thresholds or obstacles, and the wide gallery is bright and spacious, and door clearance is easy to navigate. Guests do not feel cramped as in some New Orleans accommodations.
Our Historic Holy Cross Neighborhood is a feast for the eyes! It is on the National Historic Register and many of our homes are featured in movies and books. You will see rare architectural details and fantastic color combinations.
Guest access
Guests have a private entrance from their side porch. A lockbox is available for easy check-in and check-out.
Other things to note
ARRIVAL TIME: We set 3 PM as the standard arrival time, but we can often accommodate your late, or even early, arrival. When booking the Guest Wing it is understood that guests will provide their ETA several days prior to arrival. If you have a change in your plans, please let us know as soon as possible.
LOCATION AND VALUE: Our home is in a residential area known as The Historic Holy Cross Neighborhood. Holy Cross is offers much that is not available in other areas of the city; like a peaceful night’s sleep and access to the magnificent Mississippi River! The Guest Wing is priced well below rates of French Quarter and Bywater, and many other parts of New Orleans, yet offers something special those areas don’t.
The Guest Wing provides more living space, and convenience - like parking- than many New Orleans homes.
PLEASE CONSIDER:
BEFORE BOOKING:
Some people coming to New Orleans want to be in the heart of the action. We are NOT located in the middle of bars, restaurants, and public transportation like the hotels around Bourbon Street. The Guest Wing is a great value, which made it come up in your search. Now, please consider, carefully, if you really prefer to be within walking distance of lots of bars and restaurants. In that case you should book your stay in the more expensive French Quarter, or busier neighborhoods of New Orleans.
NO PET POLICY: A few years ago we were adopted by a little dog who was wandering lost and terrified beside the Mississippi River. Tyrone is a non-shedding cocker/poodle mix. He lives in the owner's section of the house and he is a happy little watchdog. Sorry, we do not allow other pets due to pet allergies.
