Family Vacation (large group)

This is a beautiful property, well designed and well maintained. Communication with Joy was easy. We enjoyed the flat yard for many family games. The fire pit was enjoyed a couple of evenings. Some of our group walked to the state park regularly. The screened in porch was very pleasant. The house offered plenty of space for large gatherings as well as other spaces when someone was seeking a quieter spot. The main kitchen was well stocked plus there was a refrigerator in the garage and in the lower level kitchen. There were plenty of bath towels and beach towels. Would definitely consider staying here again if visiting this area. Many in our group went to the Indiana Dunes National Park, but most were disappointed in that outing. Our grandson loved picking local blueberries.

Great house, plenty of room for our four-generation family, well-kept property and a great location. It’s stocked with anything you might want to use and more. Hope to return two summers from now.

AMAZING!

This home is nothing but SPECTACULAR! GREAT location, lots of room for our group of 19, tastefully furnished, incredibly well stocked—we were all so pleased with every aspect of this property. This house made our Christmas 2023 just perfect!

Wonderful get away

Dune Haven was the perfect house for our cousins reunion. There were 8 of us and there were more than enough bedrooms and bathrooms for us. The house was equiped with everything we needed for cooking. We did walk to the lake one day and we enjoyed sitting on the front porch just talking about a cousin who passed away this past winter and how much we missed her, but overall the weather wasn't nice enough to do much outside. This was our 9th every other year reunion in the past 8 years and we all agreed that Dune Haven was by far our favorite destination. Joy was great to work with. She answered my emails quickly and was a huge help telling me where I could find a bakery to get a cake for my sister's birthday. I recommend if you have a large group that you rent Dune Haven. You won't regret it! PS, there's a cute little ice cream shop in New Buffalo called Oinks and they have lots of different flavors for a reasonable price.

Family Weekend

This was our 3rd annual family weekend with family members coming from St. Louis, MO and Akron, OH and the rest of us here in Michigan. This was our first year staying at Dunehaven and there may be many more stays here in the future as this was our favorite out of the 3 houses we have stayed at so far. What a wonderful house to call home for the weekend! The house was roomier than it looked in the pictures and everyone was pleased with their rooms. The weather wasn't the greatest but we made the best of it and we were able to play cornhole in the front yard on Saturday and drove to St. Josephs in the morning to walk around. All in all, you can't go wrong at Dunehaven!

Best Home Ever

This beautiful home in Sawyer Michigan was perfect. We were 14 ladies, over 70 years old, and could not have asked for anything that wasn't provided already. Everything was comfortable - beds, couches, outdoor furniture, fire pit, etc.

Family friendly

This was the perfect spot for our family gathering with kids and grandkids. The house and property was perfect, spacious, and well stocked with anything we could possibly need. We’ve already talked about coming back for a longer stay.

Harbor Country Delight

This property is everything advertised and more. We had 8 adults, 2 children and 1 infant, which it accomodated easily. If anything, the VRBO listing understated the elegance and hospitality of this spacious home. The kitchen/family room area is just what we needed to coordinate our schedules for my son's wedding. Staying is separate hotels rooms would have been a nightmare. The kitchen area is so well equipped-we wanted for nothing! It had additional refrigerators in the garage and the basement apartment. The master suite on the first level was extremely well done and convenient. We couldn't have been happier.

Perfect spot for a large family near Lake Michigan!

My family and two other families who have been lifelong friends rented Joy's "Dune Haven" home in Sawyer, Michigan, near the the shores of beautiful Lake Michigan. The home was ideal for us because it was spacious and had just enough bedrooms and bathrooms to accommodate all 3 families. Joy was great to work with, has the home stocked with nice appliances and things needed to cook and serve meals for a large group. The screened-in porch is terrific. The main floor has 3 large bedrooms and three bathrooms, one of which is a huge master bath with both a shower and jacuzzi tub. We all very much appreciated the owner labeling lights switches and shelves in the cabinets so we could easily operate lighting and put things back in their proper spot. Spent two of our days on the beaches of the Warren Dunes, which is stunning and only a 2 minute drive!

Perfect 4 generation vacation location

Four generations of our family gathered for a week at this wonderful home. The photos do justice to the spaciousness, cleanliness and comfort of Dunehaven. Everything listed was provided: there were plenty towels, toys, chairs, gathering spaces indoors and out. The kitchen was generously appointed. The screened porch was the perfect gathering place at any time of day and the yard provided so much running space for all our littles. We could walk or drive to the extensive Warren Dunes State Park easily. All of us would absolutely choose Dunehaven again!

Family celebration

We had a wonderful time together in this property. It was well equipped. The bedrooms were scattered on 3 levels which allowed for personal space and sound dampening for young nappers. It was close to a nice variety of activities for varying ages and interests. We would love staying here again.

50th Anniversary Celebration

This property looked like an amazing and spacious place for our group. My husband and I, along with our 3 adult children, 3 year old twins, a 2 year old, and a 2 month old stayed very comfortably in the many bedrooms and configurations available. Naps, baths, eating, outside play - all easily accomplished. Plenty of space to spread out. The toys and kitchen set ups were a huge hit! We loved the Sawyer Garden Center, Silver Beach, blueberry picking and the beachfront at Warren Dunes!

Lovely and beautiful home

I will get the VERY few not-good things out of the way now. There was one bed that was hard as a rock, and my sister and brother-in-law went to Walmart and bought a mattress pad so they could sleep. A few of the pillows could afford to be replaced. The people staying in the basement bedrooms were chilly, while the folks in the upstairs bedrooms were overly warm. If you are a serious cook, you will want to bring your own knives. Now that that's done...this house is beautiful. It is clean, well-kept, and has lovely decor. The bedroom arrangement is kind of odd, but it worked really well for our group. The yard is marvelous, with lots of big shady trees, and the fire pit was great. Our hodgepodge of kids really enjoyed the metal jungle gym. We hiked to the beach multiple times and climbed dunes. It was great that it was so close! The water pressure in the showers is AMAZING. The kitchens are really well-equipped. As previously mentioned, the knives were dull, but that's normal for a rental and we came prepared for it. We also brought some specialty baking materials with us and made two birthday cakes for a couple of the kids. The main kitchen had a STAND MIXER, which was great. Lots of dining seating and lounging seating. It's near lots of wineries and breweries and good restaurants. We would recommend this place to anybody!

Great spot for a family trip

We loved staying at Dunehaven. The space was well appointed and clean. We loved the screened in porch, fire pit, and yard. There were lots of great areas to hang out. Being able to hike in to the dunes was a real draw. We hope to return next year!!

Dunehaven

The house was perfect for our family! Five days with our kids and grandkids was wonderful. So much space for all of us to enjoy - table space for eating or board games, multiple TVs for all ages, quiet reading corners, plenty of beds and bathrooms. We were just a short walk from the beach, and a short drive to several area attractions, plus local farm and garden shopping, and new restaurants to try. The kitchen was very well stocked with anything we needed to cook or bake our favorites. Thank you for sharing this lovely house!

Spacious and fully stocked

The house is beautiful, ample, and fully stocked in the kitchen and with games, lawn chairs, water toys, etc. The owner was responsive and helpful. It is a .85 mile pleasant walk to the beach through the park. We loved the screened-in porch the best. I definitely recommend this house.

Exactly what we wanted!

This property is absolutely beautiful. We have been getting together for over ten years for biennial girls weekends, and this was by far the best place we’ve stayed! Everyone had their own bedroom, and almost everyone had their own bathroom. The house is well cared for, and perfectly laid out. Thank you for a wonderful long weekend!

Amenities and A+ Location!

After more than two years of separation our family gathered at this wonderful house. We were a short walk from Warren Dunes State Park and the kitchen was stocked with every imaginable utensil. The organization was truly impressive. Everything was clearly labeled from the plethora of beach toys to the directions for checking out. Thank-you for this lovely place.

Family Fun

Dunehaven is a lovely property! Perfectly designed to accommodate multiple families. We were impressed by the cleanliness and organization. The home is so welcoming and puts a smile on all who enter. We enjoyed the campfire, short walk to the sand dunes/beach and playing cards. Joy is an excellent host! She was even kind enough to recommend dog kennels in the area. Highly recommend Dunehaven to create special memories with your family & friends.

Beautiful home, great time with college friends

We had just an incredibly gorgeous weekend at this wonderful home. The location was great, just a short walk (10 minutes) to Lake Michigan and bunch of beautiful views. Many great memories made by campfire. Would definitely return for more fun times.

We both grew up in the Midwest and enjoy this special part of the world with fresh water, beautiful beaches, and the peace and calm of a woodland getaway only steps from the beach. Just minutes from the hustle and bustle of Midwestern cities, our home known as Dunehaven has provided us with a relaxing getaway. This special home is a sanctuary for family fun partnered with quiet moments amidst the towering pines. The white clean beaches bordered by sparkling blue water, outstanding restaurants, antique stores, unique shopping, winery tours, and blueberry picking are just a few of the things we enjoy at Dunehaven. In the fall, we like to take hikes through the woods in our backyard amidst the colorful leaves. The sparkling snow of winter and the lure of a cozy night around the fireplace mark the days of winter. And spring means hundreds of wildflowers offering a carpet of color to our walk to the beach.

We are genuinely Sawyer, Michigan with a backyard that opens onto Warren Dunes State Park with over 1,200 acres of white, sandy beaches, spectacular dunes, and miles of woodland trails.
For years our family had vacationed in Harbor Country starting with tent camping in Warren Dunes State Park. We now can share our beautiful vacation home with other families and guests who enjoy the wooded land and beaches along Lake Michigan. All four seasons beckon you with a winter wonderland (we supply the sleds and toboggan!), walks in the woods to admire the fall splendor, exploring the spring with wildflowers, butterflies and golden sunsets, and celebrating summer with walks on the beach and building sand castles. At night, enjoy a marshmallow s'more around the fire pit in our backyard.

Enjoy the luxury of open concept living in our vacation home with many amenities including four flat screen tv's with internet and streaming services, seven bedrooms, five bathrooms, 2 gourmet kitchens, wood burning fireplace and jacuzzi tub. Yet, just steps away, the adventure of a walk in the woods beckons you to peacefully step through the canopy of the forest out our back yard. With a ten minute walk, you will see the magnificent Lake Michigan with its white, clean sandy beaches and inspiring sunsets. During the winter, snowshoe through the woods to the dunes to coast down the snow-topped peaks of frosty fun just a few feet away at the dunes. My favorite place is on the screened in porch listening to the waves, the birds and the peace and calm of the tall pines and wooded wonder. On a rainy or cool evening, we love to gather around the wood burning fireplace to tell stories, play games, or play charades. (Board games and charades games are in the house) Life is instantly calmer and more peaceful when you are spending time at Dunehaven. Explore the woods, hike the dunes or just enjoy nature at its best during the day. At night, gaze at the starlit sky amidst the glow of the moon. Our firepit is the perfect gathering place for your family and friends. We even supply the roasting sticks, firewood, benches and seating around the fire in our back yard bordering the state park. Young children enjoy the wonder of nature right outside their back yard. Inside, Dunehaven is a child's delight with a large playroom, video games, toys, a play kitchen, board games, puzzles, bicycles, and even a large red wooden wagon to take our sand buckets, toys and shovels to the beautiful white sand beach. The nearby attractions of Bridgman, New Buffalo and St. Joseph are wonderful tourist communities to explore. In downtown St. Joseph, visit the chocolate cafe, old fashioned five & dime store, fudge/ice cream shop, toy store, bookstore & pet shop.
