Beautifully restored Tuscan villa, with private pool and breathtaking views

Nestled amongst the rolling hills south of Siena is this beautifully renovated 8 bedroom, 9 bathroom property.
Once an old farmhouse, it has recently undergone a full restoration, transforming it from an abandoned and long-forgotten ruin to a beautiful home and luxury rental space. The recovering and repurposing of original materials was key to this restoration project and the end result is a soothing and romantic blend of warm, earthy tones alongside modern and bright touches. The villa is composed of bright open-plan spaces to the ground floor, including a fully-equipped contemporary semi-professional kitchen, two dining areas, comfortable seating areas, a huge open fireplace and W.C.
The kitchen opens onto a covered terraced area, perfect for 'al fresco' summer dining, a morning coffee or a sunset ‘Aperitivo’.
From here, there are sweeping views of the breathtaking Tuscan landscape and access to the garden which surrounds the house on all sides, including various terraces, seating areas and barbecue area.
Four guest bedrooms (all en-suite) are located on the ground floor, one of which is linked to the communal sitting area and the other 3 have external independent entrances.
A further four well-sized bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms are located on the first floor, with a shared sitting room connecting all 4 rooms, making it the perfect setting for groups, families and gatherings of friends.
5 bedrooms have large double beds, 3 rooms are available as double or twin beds. One room is available as a triple and extra beds or cots available on request.

Outside there is a brand new private pool, finished in authentic Italian travertine stone, perfect for cooling off 'under the Tuscan sun' and the villa also boasts an indoor yoga studio / multi-purpose space / games room.
The grounds also include two woodland areas, a lavender field, a large pond and olive groves. An early morning walk up to the olive groves gifts you a beautiful sunrise and even a clear view of the impressive ‘Torre del Mangia’ tower which stands tall in Siena’s famous central Piazza del Campo.

Thanksgiving in Tuscany! The pictures online don't do this villa justice. It is even better in person. Cally and staff were amazing. They were quick to respond to any request even far in advance of our trip and all throughout our short stay. They coordinated Chef Massi to cook our family an unforgettable Thanksgiving meal. Wish we could have stayed longer and hope to return one day.

Fantastic Italian holiday!

Amazing stay from start to finish! Cally provided all the important detailed information…from places to go, in-house chef and local restaurants and vineyards. It was a perfect setting for a 3 generation family celebration. We would definitely recommend and would love to come back!!

Fabulous

We were a group of 10 using this house as a home base for our daily travels throughout Tuscany. Cally and Alex were fabulous. They were always quick to answer any questions we had. The house was so special…simply fabulous. Every inch of the house was just perfect. I was sad we didn’t get to spend more time enjoying the house and the amazing property. We had one night with Chef Ricardo who was incredible. He had such energy and passion, and his food was delicious! I can’t say enough wonderful things about this place. I highly recommend Antico Macchione for your stay in Tuscany.

Breathtaking property

Podere Macchione was the perfect place for our family gathering in Tuscany. Cally was an absolutely incredible host who looked after every detail, and whose home was a little bit of heaven on earth for us to enjoy. Everything, from the “out of this world” views, to the beautiful interior design, to wine tasting with Emily, and to a classic Tuscan dinner with Massi, was perfect. We will cherish this vacation, and have, in large part, Cally to thank for it!!!

Like living in a painting!

I can’t say enough about what a magical place Macchione is! It exceeded our expectations in every way. Every inch of the villa has been meticulously restored and decorated impeccably. The view is stunning and there was plenty of room for the 12 of us (6 adults and 6 kids) with room to spare. Cally was an incredible host, providing all sorts of helpful information leading up to our stay, and was always available to answer questions. We spent lots of time in the pool and playing ping pong and enjoyed day trips to Buonconvento and Siena. It was an unforgettable experience and we would love to return!

Celebrating milestones

We could not have been happier with our stay. The property is stunning! What Nick and Cally have done is nothing short of spectacular in every way and you can tell it was a real labor of love to restore this property and make it into an incredible retreat. We had family and friends coming and going and Gabriella, the house keeper, made it effortless on our part. Thanksgiving Weekend 2023!

We loved our stay at this property. The pictures do not do this property justice - it is even more beautiful in person!! The property is beautiful and the accommodations are amazing. Callie was so responsive in answering all of our questions and it’s clear that she has put a lot of effort into making each guest feel special and welcomed on her property. She arraigned for a private chef to come in and prepare a Thanksgiving dinner for us which was a highlight of our trip. We will definitely go back the next time we visit Italy! :)

Family trip to Tuscany

I wanted to stay at this property the minute I saw the pictures online, and am so happy we chose it. The Villa is stunning in person and had everything our family needed. The pool was great to cool off in daily, the yoga/exercise room enabled us to work out everyday (Cally’s yoga sessions were a perfect addition), and there is plenty of room to spread out inside and outside of the Villa. Cally and Nick were amazing hosts and helped with all of our plans prior to and during our trip. They also arranged for chefs and a sommelier to come to the house for Tuscan food and wine tastings. Day trips throughout Tuscany were easy, and it was so nice to come back to the villa afterwards - it felt like home. We couldn’t have asked for a better trip and Villa. If you are considering staying at Macchione don’t hesitate! We plan to return with friends and family in the near future!

A Vacation To Remember

This villa has been so well thought out by Cally & Nick. What is obvious is that they have stayed at quite a few places themselves and they have learned what works and what doesn't. The attention to detail is very evident. They could not have been more pleasant to deal with and we leaned hard into their connections in the area: from electric bike rentals with Gabriel to wine tastings with Emily to meals brought in by Chef Massi to what restaurant to go to in Siena to what beach to go to on the Tyrhennian Sea, to a very restful yoga class at the end of the week, we could never stump Cally. Truly, it seems everyone knows her and appreciates the gem that she is. The villa itself is beautiful. The rooms are gorgeous and serene. They really tried hard for rooms that were luxury but not stuffy and they delivered. The whole villa is all about acknowledging the past while keeping the modern touches that make it so today's traveler is comfortable. The kitchen is the one you wish you had at home. There was so much room, the finishes were gorgeous and the appliances were top notch. It was also well-stocked with dishes, glassware, pans, gadgets, etc. as well as spices and basic pantry items. Truly a chef's kitchen. The outdoor spaces were beautiful. We spent so much time on the patio enjoying the view with each other. We also soaked in a fair amount of time at the pool, which is massive. Many thanks to Nick & Cally! You & Podere Macchione are now part of our family's story.

Living in a dream land

Callie & Nick were amazing hosts. They have created an amazing Tuscan Villa that was absolutely perfect for our family of 15. Its 8 bedrooms with 8 bathrooms attached made everything luxurious. We were able to make daily side trips to local hilltowns. Callie was a huge help in giving advice on local sights and attractions. As elegant the indoor spaces were, the outdoor spaces were even better. Perfect for sipping wine while watching the sun set over the Tuscan panoramic landscape. Their beautifully maintained pool was the perfect way to relax after a day of site seeing.

Simply put this is a perfect Villa for a big party in all aspects. Everything is spot on and if 16 want to have aperitifs in the kitchen or sitting room or covered verandah you can do it in style and comfort. The host family are the nicest and you will ask them to join your group. Perfect Tuscan Villa in a perfect position.

The best week of our lives!!

Cally and Nic are incredible hosts. We are completely blown away by the villa as much as we are by Cally and her family! We’ve never received such incredible hospitality before our stay. They went out of their way to make us feel special, spoiled us with delicious baked goods from a local spot and went above and beyond. To be honest, we’re pretty speechless about it all. Every need was met and they were so gracious the entire time. 5 stars isn’t enough, they deserve more than that. If you’re on the fence about booking a villa in Italy, book this one. The photos do not do it justice, the views are spectacular and what they’ve done with the space is perfect. You will not regret it. We’re already talking about future trips

Perfect Stay in the Tuscan Countryside

Cally & Nick are amazing! We were so lucky to have been able to stay in their beautifully renovated Tuscan countryside villa. It perfectly fit our group of 13 friends with room to spare. Cally and Nick are such gracious and kind hosts. The property is absolutely stunning and you cannot beat their gorgeous Tuscan sunsets. The pool is awesome and we had tremendous fun exploring the whole property. Cally gave the absolute best recommendations regarding wine tours, dinners out, cooking classes at the villa and more. We could not have asked for a better week at Macchione. Thank you so much again Cally & Nick and congratulations on such a gorgeous renovation. Hopefully we’ll be able to make a reunion visit some day!

A Slice of Heaven in Tuscany

What a blessing it was to find this property as we searched for a Tuscan villa that could accommodate our Italian & American family reunion. We were 17 in total (adults + teens), and even with a group this size - the house and property felt expansive. From the moment we arrived and stepped out of our vehicles, we knew "Podere Macchione" and its owners (Cally, Nic, Max & Emme) were special. No shortcuts were taken in the restoration or appointments made throughout the house. The expansive kitchen was fully-equipped and well-stocked with the necessary basics (spices, flour, oil, vinegar, espresso, etc.) making it a breeze to crank out daily meals for our large & hungry group. The multiple living spaces were spread out, so that a meal could be eaten in one area while a raucous card game ensued in another while a sleepy guest caught a cat nap in yet another. The ensuite bedrooms were large (especially by European standards), well furnished and the beds were super comfortable. Our group made great use of the green spaces around the villa and delighted in the pool as a reprieve from the late-summer heat. I must note the kids in our group LOVED the yoga studio turned ping-pong headquarters! The villa's location is perfect as a jumping off point to explore Tuscany. Our group enjoyed day trips to Florence, Siena, Montepulciano, Pienza, Saturnia and even spent a beach day in Castiglione della Pescaia. Our hearts were heavy to leave such a magical place, but how lucky were we to have the memories of 10 days spent in this slice of heaven! -XO

A standout VRBO experience I couldn't recommend enough

From the very start, Cally and her incredible family made us all feel so welcome and at ease before we even stepped foot on Macchione. The property itself was in a word, stunning. Expertly designed, perfectly situated and not a single expense spared in making it the perfect getaway. The rooms were all generously sized and incredibly comfortable, with more than enough room for our group of 14 to feel at home immediately. The amenities were exquisite, with plenty of outdoor areas to lounge and gather as a group and enough space in the large kitchen to accommodate at least a pasta making class for 14 (that Cally generously arranged for us with the incomparable Massi). It was an experience we won't soon forget. Cally and Nick's renovation to the property is nothing short of exceptional. They've created the perfect retreat fit for a group of any size and shape. We already penciled in a week for next summer!!
