How to get there: Getting there & away
No matter if you are coming by car, train or plan.e Komarna is well connected to the outside world.
By car
Komarna is just off the main North-South highway (E65) cutting along the coast. It's about 70 km in the north of Dubrovnik and 120 km and in the south of Split. Coming from the North you will see a 'Villa Bili'-sign on your right hand side approximately 12km southwards of the town of Opuzen. Follow that sign and you're in Komarna. It is a small road on your right 700 m after the stone with km 733.
If you're coming from inland (Metkovic) turn left in Opuzen towards Dubrovnik and follow the instructions as coming from the North. Coming from the South you'll pass the 'Villa Bili'-sign on your left hand side about three km. After passing through the tourist town of Klek. Follow it. It is a small road on your left 300m after the stone with km 734.
By air: There are four options if you want to fly in. Dubrovnik Airport is the most convenient. There are plenty of flights coming in, there are good bus connections (address & timetable here) to Komarna and it's affordable to go by taxi. The second option is Split Airport which is also very well connected to the outside world and also has frequent bus connections going by Komarna (buses running between Dubrovnik and Split and pass by Komarna). See paragraph above for details. The third option is Mostar in Herzegovina. Mostar Airport is closer to Komarna than the other two but there are not many flights (especially not discount flights) coming in. Should you however land at Mostar a taxi is the easiest way to get to Komarna (and costs a fraction of what it would cost anywhere in the EU). Otherwise check out Sarajevo below. All busses from there pass through Mostar. At the moment there seems to be good prices for tickets to Sarajevo airport. Distance to Komarna is about 200 km.
What to do: Water sports:
There is always a game on in the towns football pitch when night falls. But activities in Komarna are primarily in the water or at the water front.
You can rent a lot of stuff in Villa Bili that will make a trip to the beach a lot more fun:
Motorboat (max 4 pers.): €25/ day.
Big speedboat with driver (max 6 pers.): €100/ hour.
Canoe: €25/ hour.
Water bikes: 50 kuna/ hour
Jet skis: 10 kuna/ minute.
Snorkelling: Unfortunately it is not possible to rent snorkelling gear in Komarna. If you decide to invest in some the far end of the beach is the best place to snorkel. Mask and snorkel cost around four Euro and plastic flippers cost less than 15 Euro. Both can be bought in the shopping mall on Don Radovan Jerkovica in Metkovic (see 'places to shop & eat'). Another possibility is the sports store behind the bus station in Metkovic (the bus station is behind the Citroen-dealer on the main road).
