Private Pool & Hot Tub - 4x4 Carova Beach Cottage - Wild Horses

Consider this beach cottage as a remote getaway, reached by 9 miles of beach driving after the pavement ends in Corolla -- part of the adventure and fun. Wild horses roam freely and are known to visit the property. Spend your days relaxing on the porch with ocean views, walking the shoreline in search of ocean treasures, or loading your beach gear and drive straight down to the best spot on the sand. A 4WD vehicle is required for your trip to Splash of Lime.

Ground-level below the house provides wonderful space for the hot tub, outdoor shower, charcoal BBQ grill, hammocks, hanging daybed, corn hole, picnic table with plenty of space for gathering and games.

Enter the main floor from your front decks and the space opens up to the great room with living area, dining space and fully equipped kitchen.

This main level offers two bedrooms... one with a king bed and full private bath (walk-in shower) and the other with two double beds. There is a full bath in the hallway for guests in the double room, plus the laundry room is available for use during your stay.

The rear deck is off the kitchen and is perfect for sunsets and overlooks the pool.

Level two offers ... one king room with full private bath and another room with a king plus two single beds. There is also another full bath in the hallway on this level.

Dogs are welcome - max 2. Pet fee is $250, an additional fee may be applied for multiple animals as appropriate, please check with Marty. Keep pets leashed and away from the wild horses.

No parking allowed under the house is allowed, all cars must stay on the sand.

The pool is open mid-April through mid-October. The pool can be heated for a $300 weekly fee in April/May and Sept/Oct.

We are located in the Northern OBX of NC. Norfolk, VA is the closest airport, approximately 108 miles by car. Map view shows 2 miles to VA border, but the property is only accessible via Rt 12N. ** Please note - Vrbo's "Explore the Area" and nearby attractions are autogenerated and not accurate. We are approximately 150 miles from Virginia Beach by car. We are near the Corolla, Duck and Southern Shores areas of the Northern Outer Banks.

We had a fantastic stay. We had everything we needed for cooking meals. Yes, it’s remote, but it’s very peaceful and quiet. We wanted to get away from it all with the family, and we spent hours at both the beach (short walk) and playing in the pool. The home is very clean. We saw horses everyday but one. Thanks for a wonderful stay! Would highly recommend!

Loved every single thing about this property! This was our first time to the area and what an adventure! The house was super clean, super comfortable, well stocked and check-in instructions were very clear! Despite Mother Nature and her wind we had a blast and most mornings were greeted by Sir Charles Gordon Whitefoot and his harem! Marty was great and communication was quick. Definitely on our list to visit again! Highly highly recommend!

Such a Great House!

This is our second time staying at this home. The neighborhood is quiet and the home is the cleanest rental we have ever stayed in. It has a great kitchen with everything you could ever need. The beds and linens are so comfy and we loved having some beach chairs and other beach equipment available to use. The pool and hot tub are lovely and we saw wild horses in both the front and back yard each day. Marty is excellent to deal with and his communication is top notch. Overall, we love this home!

Family Vacation on Carova

Our family vacation at Carova Beach was truly a peaceful paradise. The home had everything we needed and more—beautifully stocked, comfortable, and thoughtfully prepared for guests. It's the perfect place to unplug, relax, and spend meaningful time with family.We will definitely be returning soon and have already shared this gem with our friends and family. Wonderful Spring Break getaway!

You want to go all the way out to Corolla, to get away and unplug! Especially at this time of year (early April), it was a welcomed ghost town! We saw horses roaming around, deer, and went to the beach every day! Our favorite spot with the rainy spring weather was the hottub!! What a wonderful and accommodating home - perfect for our family to enjoy each other’s company for a few days. Thank you for your hospitality Marty & Fam!

Fantastic stay

The hosts communication was great, the house was not only spacious and clean but the kitchen was well stocked with small appliances and such to make cooking a breeze. We had a lot of fun adventuring around the areas and saw wild horses multiple times! We look forward to returning in the future.

Excellent!

Would definitely stay here again! It was the perfect kitchen for a larger Thanksgiving meal and as a bonus, there were two fridges. The house was very clean with great access to the beach. From the second story, you can see the water. And of course, there were lots of horses.

Fun Fall Destination

We enjoyed ours stay at Splash of Lime! Our family enjoys adventure and solitude, we checked all the boxes here. The 4x4 experience is fun (maybe a little too exciting at high tide with a full moon). The horses! Awesome! They made many stops by the house. Area is very cool and house offers everything you would need. Great visit!

Great house for our whole family

The house was perfect for our family of five plus a friend, and room for more. My kids of all ages had a blast. The beach is easy to walk to and the horses are everywhere. The owners answered our questions/concerns promptly and even helped us check in early.

Weekend away

We decided to book a last minute weekend away and just kind of stumbled on the Slice of Lime listing. It had a very unique location with a pool, hot tub, close to the beach and a wonderful open floor plan. We’re a family of 3 plus our two dogs and our host made everything easy. They aren’t kidding when they mean 4x4 and our Jeep handled the trip to the house easily. A weekend almost isn’t enough. I could sit outside and enjoy the sounds of the ocean and watch for the wild horses all day. The pool and hot tub were a wonderful addition. Especially for our active 13 year old. I highly recommend this property if you are looking to just kind of get off the grid and escape the crazy every day.

Beautiful property with lots of amenities for your family. Marty and Rhonda were wonderful to rent from. This is a wonderful experience- would definitely recommend. Bring a 4 wheel drive and be ready to let the air out of your tires!

Wonderful secluded beach home!

The property exceeded our expectations and was by far the cleanest rental home our family has stayed in. The home had everything you needed for a stay in 4x4. Marty was an exceptional host who went above and beyond to ensure we arrived safely and were enjoying our stay. We absolutely fell in love with Carova and highly recommend booking with Marty. The location of the home provides such a nice relaxing vacation away from the busy more central beaches of OBX. We saw horses everyday many times directly on our property. Absolutely amazing vacation!

Simply the Best!

What a wonderful experience! A beautiful home that was exceptionally clean and looked just like the listing photos. The kitchen has everything you could ever need and the outdoor grills are awesome. Beds and linens are super comfortable. Area is walkable or easily drivable to beach. We saw horses every day. The beach driving was so fun in our 4x4s. Overall, this was an awesome experience. Marty was wonderful and very easy to work with.

Beautiful home!

We had a great time at splash of lime. The pool was clean and beautiful and the hot tub was perfect. The bedrooms were spacious and sheets were clean and ready to go. Horses hung out in the yard in the evening which was pretty cool. The kitchen was well stocked with nice plates that looked like limes. The porches had comfy chairs and the patio had 2 hammocks and a swinging loveseat! All around we had a fun relaxing time at splash of lime!

Splash of fun

We loved our stay at Splash of Lime! Hosts were very responsive during our stay. Answered all questions prior to arrival and during our stay. The location of the house is perfect to have peace and quite and see the wild horses. The house also had many activities (games, puzzles, ect) and provided umbrellas and beach chairs. Our family had a great time!

Fantastic Home, Fantastic Location

We are seasoned VRBO vacationers. This home was the cleanest that we have ever stayed in. The house was in perfect condition. No wobbley tables, broken drawers, rusty beach chairs, etc. The owner genuinely seems to want you to enjoy his property and your vacation. He helped us with some transportation issues that we had and saved us an entire day of travel. As for the location, we have never been to the Outer Banks or a 4X4 beach. We drive a regular SUV and had no trouble figuring out the air in the tires and navigating the sand. We saw horses everyday. This beach has beautiful white sand and the water is clear. It really isn't as remote as one of the other comments suggested. It is maybe a bit of a hassle to deflate and air you tires, but there are plenty of places to put air in your tires for free. We made a list and grocery shopped once and went in for a meal and shopping on another afternoon. If you have any hesitations about booking this location, I highly recommend staying here. This was one of the best vacation weeks that we have had.

The simple 4 bedroom layout is great for groups or multiple families. You have everything you need to enjoy the disconnected feeling of being "on the sand" with the horses, and they come to the house frequently.
