Family Friendly Paradise

The beautiful home and property provided EVERYTHING we needed for a family vacation that we will never forget. The 5 grandkids (ages 10 months, two 2 year olds, 5 and 9 had so much fun with the many water toys, bikes, kayaks,etc. The 8 adults also enjoyed the pontoon, paddle boards, lily pad, kayaks, etc ALL in a safe and family friendly environment. Perfect property.

Beautiful view, tropical looking lake

Family took full advantage of the lake and all the toys. The huge kitchen windows offered a beautiful view of the lake and first thing in the morning the huge fire pit was enjoyed by all in the evening. They cooked many great meals in the beautiful kitchen.

Gorgeous Home on Breathtaking Lake.

Such an amazing vacation! The property is situated in the most perfect location with a huge, sandy beach entry into the lake with the most outstanding water we have ever seen! All we wanted to do was be in the water and we even swam across to the other side accompanied by paddle boarders one morning. The home is spacious and yet cozy with literally everything you could possibly need from lake floats/toys to a fully equipped kitchen. Dena and Mark are exceptional hosts; very kind and responsive. Such a great time!

Beautiful place with so many amenities

This place is amazing. They have thought of everything. From board games to water /sand toys,bikes,scooters tubes kayaks paddle boat . They had it all. We could not get board as there were so many things each of us wanted to do/try. Thank u Dena and Mark for Shari g your beautiful place with others. Def a must stay .

A Slice of Heaven!

This is our families third time at this beautiful place on Lake Avalon, and we pray it is not our last. This home has everything you need for a relaxing and fun week at the most amazing lake in Michigan. Our family, ages 1 to 68, spent each and everyday enjoying the view, the water and the space to make new memories. A person could ask for nothing more than what Dena and Mark provide. They are such wonderful people to work with and we so are blessed that they are sharing their lovely place with our family. Looking forward to our next vacation here. Thank You Dena and Mark! A little bit of heaven!

I brought my family to Mark and Dena's property during the second week of July. We were 10 strong...ages 1.5 to 71. Everyone had a wonderful time. The house was immaculate. The beach was superb for our kids ... ages 1.5 to 7 years old. Just shallow enough to be safe but deep enough to try new things. We didn't realize that the house would be so well stocked with everything we needed for a great week. Kayaks....my grandchildren learned quickly how to maneuver these, canoes, paddle board, fishing boat, lots of floats and water toys. The kids were discovering new toys each day we were there. There is a sandy area that the kids used every day with enough sand toys to keep them busy all week. Every night we had a fire in the new fire pit that overlooks the lake. We brought our boat and tubed and swam every day. Had to push the boat out....It is a bit shallow for a ways out but we were there to get wet anyway! The lake was not busy at all...even on the weekends. A great place for poppa to try and ditch the kids off the tubes and into the water. We had many memorable moments! The interior of the home was just perfect for our family. There was lots of space to do things together as well as have our quiet time. The washer and dryer came in handy! The kitchen was well stocked with pantry needs. Bathrooms had beach towels, hair products, etc. Dena did a wonderful job in making sure that our needs were anticipated. She stocked the cabinets with adult and kids games. There were also toys upstairs that the kids played with all week. There are DVDs ..family style... To play in the 2 tvs.....no one wanted to leave. There wasn't much around to go and do away from the property but we came to play in the water! We are definitely coming back next year.....to a little bit of heaven! Thank you Mark and Dena for allowing us to share your home.

Wonderful vacation house

Just returned from Dena and Mark’s home in Hillman and am still reviewing the great time we had. My husband and I, son, dil and his 4 kids, my daughter, sil and her 2 kids found lots of things to keep us busy on the lake. It is a clear, clean lake, with small beach and lots of water toys that we enjoyed. With ages 8-16, it is hard to find something for all but this home had that. And it was clean, updated and very well stocked! Thanks to Dena and Mark for a fun vacation!

Amazing property!

We have rented a number of properties on lakes throughout Michigan for our family vacations. This was by far our favorite. The house was so clean and well equipped, from the quality appliances to so many amenities, it’s far too much to mention. The lake and location also could not have been better. We had an incredible time and can’t wait to return next year. Thank you for being so responsive, maintaining such a welcoming home, and representing the best northern Michigan has to offer!

Wonderful!!!

Let me start out by saying, Thank You Dena, Mark and family for sharing your lovely place on Lake Avalon. This is the second year we have been blessed to have our 'extended family vacation' at this lovely home. Lake Avalon is simply the most beautiful inland lake we have been to. The only thing we could ever want, when staying here, is another week or two. :) They supply everything you could possibly need. With three grandchildren under seven, water toys, kayaks, bikes, games, movies, etc. etc. etc. are an added bonus. Having bedding, towels, beach towels provided is Fantastic. We brought our food and clothing and were ready for the time of our lives and memory making moments. Looking forward to being able to have another vacation at this Beautiful 'Place in the North' very soon. Again, Thank You McMurray's for allowing others to use your up north home and all it has to offer. You are the Best!!! Karen :)

Lake Avalon Vacation

Everything was fantastic. The kids actually cried when we had to leave because the house and lake were so beautiful. The owners went above and beyond to accommodate our family…we are already planning next year as long as they will have us back. ;)

Beautiful Lake, Fantastic Home, Wonderful Memories Made! We didn’t want to leave!

We have been home for a month from our vacation at Dena and Mark’s place on Lake Avalon. I have not written a review until now. I wanted to make sure I found the right words to describe what a Fantastic place they have. It is a Beautiful home!!! Our yearly family vacation was Wonderful. Dena and Mark provided everything you would need or want at their lake home. This was by far one of the best-appointed houses we have ever rented. We wanted for nothing. We enjoyed the beautiful views from the deck and from the home. The water is exactly as the pictures show, sandy and clear. When you are planning a vacation for three generations and toddlers, this home and Lake Avalon are perfect. There were amazing days spent on the water, on the raft, in kayaks, by the awesome firepit, watching the sunrise, building castles in the sand and the list goes on and on. Our family loved this home. It was perfect, one of a kind, clean and a great set-up. This home was excellent for our family, we had 7 adults and three children. This was our best VRBO experience. The owners are extremely nice and helpful. Our entire group would highly, highly recommend this property. We just can not say enough wonderful things about this home, this lake and the owners! Thank you so much Dena and Mark for sharing your ‘Beach home of the North’ with our family. We can’t wait to rent this lovely home again. 😊

Beautiful Home & Lake!

We loved Lake Avalon and the comfort and beauty of this home! It had everything you needed for a large group and we really appreciated all the extra beach towels, water floats, slide, kayaks and canoe! The lake and beach were perfect for kids and we all enjoyed the scenery and house set up. I would rent it again in a heartbeat :) Thank you so much!

August 2020 Vacation

We had a wonderful time at the house. It was clean and well-stocked. The owners were an absolute joy to work with and answered our questions promptly. The have stayed at a lot of lake houses in Michigan and the water at Lake Avalon was the absolute clearest we have seen. The kids loved going out to the "island" to go down the slide and jump off the diving board. The boats and kayaks got a lot of use as well.

Great time at the Lake.

Wonderful property. Could use a couple more Standup Boards and less Kayaks. IMPORTANT. The WIFI number on the Internet and in the binder is wrong. Emailed you but no response. Accidently found your Wifi plaque behind the coffee maker the second day. It was a different number but right.

Fun family getaway

We enjoyed our stay in Hillman. Dena our host was very responsive to any questions we may of had. The house was well equipped with all the necessities in a well thought out vacation home. Everything was beautiful inside and out. We a had a very fun and relaxing week even with the gray skies.

Incredible Views, Great Family Time

We thoroughly enjoyed the fun activities and beautiful setting of this lake house. The shallow water with sandy bottom was perfect for the toddlers, and the kayaks and canoes were perfect for exploring.

Awesome!

Everything about our stay was great! The communication with the McMurray’s, the cleanliness, the lake, the amount of sleep space and the kitchen! The whole house was super well stocked as well! We’re already wanting to plan another trip! The amount of water toys available are super as well! The only thing that I would alter would be the staircase. It’s not child friendly which made this mom of two very fearless little boys slightly nervous. But other than that it was so great!

Great house!

Owner was very responsive and helpful. House was amazing and well stocked. Great open floor plan so everyone hold hang out together. Loves the speakers on the main floor to listen to music. The only thing I would have liked was screens in all the windows to enjoy the breeze. But all in all a great place.

So relaxing!

We stayed here with two other families, so there were 12 people total. The house had everything we needed and more! That lake was amazing and crystal clear. The town does not have much to offer but it made the trip more relaxing. The local grocery store is pretty expensive so I would bring all you need. The only small downfall were the stairs to go upstairs. We had children ages 2-5 so it made us a little nervous with the 2 year olds. However, no one got hurt and they seemed to manage just fine going up. We also had fun playing basketball and the kids loved riding bikes in the driveway when we took a break from the water. I would go back in a heartbeat!!

We are the owners of this beautiful Lake Avalon home. Pictured are our 4 beautiful children ready to tube around the lake. We grew up in Hillman and I had the privilege of growing up on the other side of the lake. I have always loved this lake, but didn't realize how special and rare a lake like this was until we moved away from the area. We spent many years in Berkley, MI and currently reside in Clarkston, MI. On the weeks that we do not have the opportunity to use our lake home, we are renting it to others so they may too experience this amazing lake and create life-long memories at this truly special place!
