Winking Owl at Hoot Owl Hollow is a romantic, loft-style cabin designed for couples who appreciate comfort, design, and a peaceful wooded setting — all within walking distance of downtown Mentone.

The open floorplan creates an intimate atmosphere, where the queen bed, freestanding soaking tub, gas fireplace, and living space flow together in one thoughtfully designed room. Large windows frame wooded views, giving the cabin a light-filled, airy feel.

The fully equipped kitchen with gas range offers generous storage and workspace. A second flexible room includes a queen Murphy bed and fold-down desk, making it ideal for remote work or an additional guest. The primary bath features dual vanities and a walk-in shower.

Step outside to enjoy the covered deck with rocker and high-top table for two, a private firepit with firewood provided, and an outdoor shower for a touch of mountain adventure.

Winking Owl is one of three cabins on 12 wooded acres at Hoot Owl Hollow. Guests can cross a small bridge over a seasonal creek and explore a simple walking trail behind the property.

Nearby attractions include Mentone’s village shops and restaurants (a short walk), Brow Park, DeSoto Falls (3 miles), DeSoto State Park (9 miles), and Little River Canyon (18 miles). Wildlife such as deer, turkey, and owls are frequently seen throughout the woods.

I live on the property with my two dogs and manage the cabins directly, ensuring each stay is comfortable and well cared for. My goal is simple: to offer guests a thoughtfully designed space where they can slow down, celebrate, and enjoy both the woods and the village just steps away.

We chose this location because Mentone offers something increasingly rare — a true mountain village where you can walk to dinner, greet neighbors along the way, and still be surrounded by natural beauty.

The heart of town is small but vibrant, with local restaurants, seasonal farmers markets, and free summer concerts held just down the street. Waterfalls, hiking trails, and scenic overlooks are only minutes away.

We love that guests can park once and experience both the charm of village life and the quiet of the surrounding woods. Mentone feels personal, unhurried, and connected to the land — qualities that make it a meaningful place to gather, celebrate, and slow down.

Winking Owl was intentionally designed as a romantic loft-style retreat, where the sleeping, soaking, and living spaces flow together in one open, light-filled room. The freestanding soaking tub positioned beside the bed creates a spa-like atmosphere rarely found in traditional mountain cabins.

While Winking Owl sits near The Nest, mature trees and natural landscaping provide privacy. The broader Hoot Owl Hollow property spans 12 wooded acres, giving guests room to explore while still being within walking distance of downtown Mentone — a combination that is rare on Lookout Mountain.
