Purpose built spacious self-catering bungalow with enclosed garden (an added bonus for parents of young children). Just 2km. from the River Shannon, perfect for a restful break enabling you to unwind and forget your busy schedule. For touring enthusiasts, it is ideally situated in the heart of Ireland with all locations reachable by daily excursions.

Banagher - a picturesque Riverside setting: Banagher uncrowded, rich in history and with a charm all of its own, nestles in the heart of Ireland. Built on the majestic River Shannon, the longest river in the British Isles, it's an ideal base for touring Ireland. It's main attractiveness is it's complete naturalness made up of beautiful rivers and boglands. A fisherman's paradise with the Rivers Shannon, Brosna, Lough Derg, Lough Allen and the Grand Canal. Offaly's unpolluted waters is home to all types of fish - salmon, perch, pike, brown trout, bream, eels, roach and rudd.

Local Attractions:: The Shannon and its tributaries provide opportunities for cruising, sailing, canoeing, fishing and birdwatching while mountains, eskers, bogs and farmland offer a variety of scenery for rambling, climbing, horseriding, cycling or driving. The area is unspoilt, the traffic moderate and most importantly, the people in the countryside, towns and villages are friendly.

For evening entertainment in both Banagher & Birr offers a wide selection of pubs and restaurants to suit all tastes and ages e.g. traditional and modern music pubs, fully licenced restaurants and fast food outlets or join the locals in a card game.

Main Tourist Attractions: The main tourist attractions in Offaly are:-

Clonmacnoise - A famous monastic site founded by St. Kieran in 584 A.D. Ireland's last High King Rory of Connor was buried here in 1198. The site contains a cathedral, eight church ruins, two round towers as well as high crosses, hundreds of monumental slabs and the remains of a castle. It is one of the world's most famous monastic sites.

Birr Castle Demesne - In the beautiful heritage town of Birr, famous for its Georgian architecture is one of Europe's finest ornamental gardens with exotic blooms and shrubs. It also features the world's tallest boxwood hedges and a giant telescope built in 1845.

Lough Boora Discovery Park - Nature lover's paradise with walking and cycling trails and a fairy trail for the younger children.

Victoria Lock & Meelick Weir - Built in 1843 during the reign of Queen Victoria. Also features a newly reconstructed pedestrian bridge over the River Shannon allowing you to watch the rapids as they flow underneath your feet.

Perfect home from home

Super, friendly host Joe met us and gave us an insight into the local area and lots of information. There was just the two of us but the property could easily accommodate seven people. All the facilities that we required, a true home from home. Perfect location for our days out both locally and as far as Waterford, Dublin, Galway and Westport. Thanks again Joe.

Fantastic first visit to Ireland

The accommodation was fantastic (we were even surprised with cake for coffee). The cottage also left nothing to be desired. The surroundings are super. A great chance find for us was the castle and the associated garden in Birr (about 10 minutes drive) also recommendable are the pubs in Banagher. We would unreservedly recommend the accommodation to our friends.

Dream come true.

Ireland and this house exceeded our expectations. Four women ages 50-70. Everyone left completely satisfied. Host was helpful and kind. It’s in a remote area but we knew that before we went. A 2 minute drive into the town of Banagher and a 40 minute walk.

Family Christmas

From start to finish we were made to feel most welcome. Even on our morning walks the local drivers all waved and said good morning. We are from the UK and the US. This charming house provided us with a perfect base to explore the area and also hunker down and enjoy our family time. Joe and Carmen are the kindest hosts. There were delicious treats in the kitchen to make our arrival Even sweeter. We will definitely be back at some point during the warmer months! Lots of quaint villages and bigger towns nearby, can’t wait to come back and explore even more! Thank you!

Glebe House, Banagher

We have stayed at Glebe House on a number of occassions both for family holidays and as part of a group taking part in the Banagher Fishing Festivals .We have always found the house to be spotless and extremely comfortable. The owners Mary and Michael always give a warm welcome and are on hand if required. We would have no hesitation recommending this property and speak of it regularly with great fondness. There are many good Pubs in the town and especially enjoy our time in Flynn's Bar & Lounge where Eugene and his staff are extremely friendly. lots to see and do in the area . Great facilities for a family close to Banagher

We received a warm welcome from Joe, who explained all the features of the property .The property is great for anyone looking for a disabled friendly property with a wet room and everything at ground level. No waiting for the bathroom as you have a choice of three. The washing machine and dryer was an asset on wet days. Banagher is located about a mile away in the car ,a superb supermarket and a couple of decent pubs. Joe was available for any enquiries we had. I will definately be back on the stenth of my recent visit.Cheers.

A great Irish holiday

I was lucky enough to tag along and with Three friends (all family) on an Irish holiday at the beginning of May for 5 days. I arranged the housing and was lucky enough to find this house and was even luckier to speak with Mary over the phone. Michael and Mary had the house very clean and even a fire started for us on our arrival, wihch made for some serious napping after a full day of traveling from the states. We used this house as a central location (being 1.5 hours from Dublin) to get out and see the major attractions. We were 1.5 from the Cliffs and Cork and Cobh. Each day we looked very forward to getting back to this house after a full day of site seeing. I recommend this house to anyone with transportation and willing to be able to relaxe in this small town at night. A great time had by all.

Super house for our family of 4

Joe and family were the perfect hosts for our trip to County Offaly. Before arriving Joe provided helpful information on things to see and do in the area. On arrival Joe was there to meet us with a warm welcome and he had left us some sweet treats and set up games in the garden for our sons 9 & 12. The house was very clean, comfortable and spacious for our family of 4. It had all the facilities that you would need. We felt right at home. The location of the house was perfect for us to use a base from which to explore the county and beyond. We were lucky to visit when there were parades and fairs on in both Banagh and Birr which were great fun. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to this part of Ireland and would definitely recommend a stay in Joe's house. Power of Ireland

A memorable stay at Hynes Self Catering. A perfectly located gem in the middle of Ireland. Ideal base for travelling both locally and around Ireland. We covered all parts of Ireland. Lots of lovely castles including Ashford Castle,and traditional Irish pubs to Kylemore Abbey to Powerscourt Waterfall. All trips achievable within a day. Local attractions visited were Leap Castle, River Shannon and Tullamore Dew. The towns of Banagher and Birr hosted many restaurants and bars. JJ Houghs in Banagher is a must to visit. We got some Guinness glasses to take away. A lovely souvenir from Banagher! The Dungeon bar in Kinnitty Castle Hotel is only 20Km away and offers a relaxed atmosphere and well worth a visit! The hosts were warm and welcoming and made sure we were well looked after. Joe provided us with lots of tips for sightseeing and was very attentive and helpful.The house is well equipped and spacious for families and groups of all ages. We highly recommend this property and location.

La maison est très grande et très agréable, très bien équipée et propre. Joseph est un hôte incroyable, très réactif et très aimable, avec beaucoup de bons conseils pour visiter la région. Merci pour les attentions très appréciables à notre arrivée. Nous avons passé un magnifique séjour, au calme, dans la campagne. Le village de Banagher à quelques km offre toutes les commodités. Ne pas manquer le pub JJ Hough, très typique, avec une magnifique ambiance et une super musique !

An excellent place to stay

A group of us parents traveled from Canada to see our kids who were touring with our local Marching Band in Ireland. The house was an excellent central location for us. It was also the best place we could have chosen to stay. The owners were so warm and welcoming. We recommend renting from Mary in a hearbeat. There was so much to see and do in the area. We had an excellent stay.
