The Maksimir neighborhood is perhaps the most desirable area in the city. It is dotted with cafes and small restaurants and features a ZOO and the city's main stadium.
The Park was founded in 1787 and was the first large public park in South-Eastern Europe, at 1,005 acres. It predates the majority of Europe's public park foundings.
