This is an incredible cabin and Monica was a wonderful host! Calm, peaceful, clean, and quiet - with incredible views. Monica was very responsive and helpful and so kind. We especially loved watching some fun VHS movies and enjoying the sauna!

We had a wonderful time in this cozy beautiful cabin. The pictures don’t do it justice. The outdoor tub and sauna were fantastic amenities that really add to the experience. The kitchen has everything you need for cooking including oil and spices. The host Monica is very responsive and was there to greet us at check-in. Important to know the beds are full size, not queen, but we’re slender people and slept comfortably. All in all, a fantastic location for exploring Big Sur.

It was our little unexpected rainforest. Not that it rained just that it had that feel.

Would/ will definitely look to stay again in the future and have told friends and family. Was more than we had hoped for. Excellent.

Very cute cottage. Monica was very communicative and gave great directions. There was wood in the fireplace, kitchen essentials, and the water got hot quickly. The clawfoot tub after a day of hiking was luxurious. The bedroom is accessible by an outside staircase only. We ended up sleeping comfortably on the futon in the living room. The road there is a little intense but my Camry made up fine. Would recommend 4WD in the rainy season. Not super necessary but house slippers would’ve been great as the floor can get cold. Located close to Carmel by the Sea, Big Sur, Garrapata, and many trails. This place is truly a gem!

Somewhat off the grid but that is what made it special. The view was spectacular especially early morning with a cup of coffee. Monica was so wonderful and super responsive.

Perfect location

Monica and Joel’s place is the perfect home base location for exploring all the best spots in Carmel and Big Sur! We stayed 3 nights and explored pebble beach, point lobos, garrapata, Big Sur, Julia pfieffer burns, and lots of other spontaneous spots along the way. The cabin was quaint and comfortable. We used the kitchen to cook our breakfasts and dinners each day, it had everything we needed. Mónica and Joel were great hosts! Thank you so much!

The Perfect Cabin Getaway

This is such a perfect little cabin to retreat from the business of life and enjoy the stillness that the surrounds you with the trees and mountains. My wife and I loved our time at this cabin.

Beautiful getaway

We loved the stay in the cabin. It is nicely situated in the mountains away from PCH. We were able to observe birds and deer really close. The cabin was neat and had everything we needed for our stay. The final stretch of the route is a steep dirt road that might be easier to drive with a 4WD. But we were able to get in and out with our minivan.

Magnificent experience

We LOVED our stay in this very secluded cabin!It is built into the forested canyon surrounded by trees. You have to carefully follow signs on rural bumpy roads. I am adventurous but would never attempt to find this at night.Monica- the owner- is very sweet and helpful. She makes sure you print directions and gone before dark. Staying here was a real priceless part of our forest trip to Big Sur. You wake up to peaceful woods and birdsong. Only 1 bathroom- fine with us. Fill yet small kitchen was super. The refrigerator allows you to store basic sandwiches and coffee creamer. 3 people slept on futons, as stated. So very basic in that way.Just an awesome experience and we feel very blessed to stay.

Magical Cabin in the Woods

My partner and I had the best time during our stay here. The pictures do not do it justice. It’s an adorable and well appointed cabin. It had everything we needed and more. The view from the deck is incredible. We had so much fun enjoying drinks and watching birds and other wildlife there. There’s a lovely tub outside under a jasmine covered trellis and the sauna is fantastic. We had the pleasure of meeting the host who was friendly and helpful. Everything is set up to be easy for the guest like having all the tools needed to use the wood burning stove. We were very comfortable and happy there and we are already talking about returning. I’d highly recommend a stay here for anyone who enjoys quiet and nature. We found it to be a perfect romantic spot for two.

We loved our quiet mountain hideout. The road up was a little intense, but the cabin itself was clean, comfortable, and cozy.

Beautiful getaway in the trees

This place is a gem. There is one bed and two futons in the home. There is a full kitchen, without a microwave and dishwasher. You awake to a forest of redwood out your window. There is an awesome sauna that we used and loved. Monica is helpful and available, as she resides nearby. The house is up a long and curvy (sometimes dirt) road about 2.5 miles into the woods. A 4x4 vehicle is helpful. Word to the wise, arrive before dark to get the lay of the land. Bring food with you, as there are few local places to eat and navigating the road at night is not advised. Maintaining the internal temperature of the house is tricky, so bring layers in the colder months. The house is so sweet and thoughtfully decorated. Rustic, quiet and the perfect getaway from city life. We did not have phone reception despite the WiFi code, so it likely depends on your carrier. You will love this place!!

Fabulous tiny cabin in the peaceful woods

The hosts were lovely. The setting was magical. A tiny cabin nestled in the trees. Coffee on the wrap around porch with birds and oak trees was so peaceful.

Comfy stay!

We had never been to Big Sur & wow was this the perfect location to stay! The view of the stars at night was stunning & the view in the daytime, gorgeous. We felt right at home & slept so well. Our only complaint is that we didn’t get to stay longer!

A truly magical place

I literally cannot stop gushing to everyone I know about this vacation - the best of my life, without exaggeration. The Big Sur area is incredible (hiking, excellent restaurants) and the cabin was the perfect hideaway for restful mornings and cozy evenings. The road up to the cabin is incredible - a bit daunting the first time but we quickly learned the way. Magical, giant redwoods, beautiful rustic homes that look like they grew there. The cabin itself is so cozy, and the view in every direction is truly glorious - nothing like tea on the porch as the sun comes into the valley and the birds begin to sing, or waking up after a lazy post-hike nap in the bedroom loft, surrounded by windows, or a hot bath outdoors with a misty drizzle falling and the trees swagged in fog. I can't think of a better place to stay! Do take note: the cell reception is non-existent at the cabin. The wifi helps, but it's a little spotty. For some folks (me!) this is something in the plus column, but it's probably not for everyone.

We have lived in the area for over 28 years, and on this property for 19 where we have raised a large family. All of our children still live in the area, and our 16 year old daughter, Sienna, is still with us. I am a carpenter/builder and have rarely had to leave this canyon for work while my wife, Monica, has worked for many years at a fine restaurant in Carmel though now she stays plenty busy running this business. We have been avid backpackers through the years, taking the entire family on many hikes. We are a storehouse of info regarding the best local restaurants, hiking trails, beaches, river spots, etc. so please feel free to ask.
