Fantastic Family Stay

Best Rental on St. John

The view is astonishing. Beds are comfortable. House is clean. Nice collection of books to read while there. Great shaded front porch with outdoor dining. The house is located just above cinnamon beach which is one of the best beaches on the island. Catered to Vacation Homes is a wonderful company to work with. The only downside is the large tree that is blocking some of the view of the Caribbean from the pool and the birds constantly trying to get in the house for food and soiling on the cushions of the lounge chairs.

Love St. John

The Mango Bay location is amazing overlooking cinnamon bay. Property management is very attentive and met us to drive with us to house night of arrival and acquaint us with amenities. 2 items need mention, the water pressure is very low and erratic meaning showers upstairs longer than 3 minutes will result in no water in your shower for 8-9 minutes until system recharges. A larger pump might be needed. Also, the view of cinnamon bay below is unfortunately mostly obscured due to vegetation overgrowth and would benefit from tree trimming maintenance to restore the lovely view. Otherwise highly recommend the location!

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Everything in the house is as advertised. Very nice home for the money. The only issue we had was with the air conditioning. Yes, the "main house" (LR, kitchen, etc.) is not air conditioned. Very common on St. John and opening the doors (which had screens) cools it off well. BR's are technically air conditioned. Each has an A/C "machine" in it. The problem is that the bathrooms are open air - only screens on the bathroom (shower) windows and the door to the bathroom is a louvered door. So, the little AC machine does the best it can to keep it "cool" in your room but it is really fighting a losing battle. If you are expecting a comfortably cooled room to sleep/shower in, this is not your house. For that reason, I would probably not rent this particular house again. Everything else is fantastic - location (really convenient), pool, porches, etc. Property was very clean and well maintained. Abby was manager that checked us into our villa. She was great! I would absolutely rent through Catered To again though. They had excellent communication and did everything very well!

Perfect St. John vacation villa with the best views!

After staying in Great Cruz Bay the other times we decided to try the north shore and weren't disappointed! Mango Bay was perfect for our 4 adult couples. Each having their own king bedroom suites with AC, very comfy beds and large rooms and showers. The pool was beautiful and just the right size. We spent countless hours on the covered balcony just relaxing and enjoying the views in the extremely comfortable patio furniture. Plenty of shade or sun space if you prefer! The living area was beautiful although we spent the majority of time outdoors. The kitchen is very well stocked. There were 3 coolers and enough nice newer beach chairs for our entire group to use. Definitely saved us some money! The house was just minutes from all the great north shore beaches and very close to town and shopping. As always, Catered To was amazing to work with from booking to checking in. So good at communicating with and they even had someone meet us at the jeep rental and showed us to our home. Once there she was a huge help explaining everything to us and gave us some helpful tips! Within a few hours of making a call, an AC unit that was broken was fixed. So appreciated! They really think of everything. The home was very clean and we only noticed a few bugs. Not bad for the middle of the jungle! Being up that high there was always a constant welcome breeze. Definitely rent a jeep as the switchbacks and roads can be difficult to climb. Mango Bay is definitely a 4 star accommodation and I highly recommend it!

We cook in often and the kitchen was completely stocked with everything we needed plus we had two refrigerators which was great. The only issue it is difficult to reach the property but once you arrive through the security gate you feel safe. We have used Catered To before and there staff is very helpful and we have been very satisfied.

For the price we paid for the house, the faucet fixtures, light fixtures, ceiling fans(dirty)extremely corroded and many light bulbs were out. Lampshades torn. Patio furniture and cushions were in bad condition stained and torn. Beach bag and ice chests need to be replaced. Portable air units would work better but bedrooms do not seal off to keep it cool to sleep. The plus is the views are beautiful. It’s a nice and very expensive house but needs to be kept up for the high price. Sadly disappointed.l

More like an eco resort than the luxury we expected...

The property did not appear well-maintained nor was it thoroughly cleaned upon arrival. Positives - the view was captivating, the pool was refreshing, and the beds were all comfortable. Negative - there is no A/C in the main room and loud A/C units in the bedrooms; the overall cleanliness was lacking; noticeable wear and tear throughout the property; multiple unannounced visits from contractors assoc. w/ Catered To Vacations - it was invasive at times.

Wonderful place to stay with our adult children

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This is our 7th trip to St. John with our family and the first time we've come since the hurricane and pandemic. Of all the villas we've rented over the years, Mango Bay is our favorite. The location is perfect. It is so convenient to the North Shore beaches and to all of the grocery stores. During our stay, we made it to most of the beaches on the island, and it was convenient to every place we visited. There is even a market and gas station just down the hill. The house is beautiful and well designed. Everything is so solid in this house. From the wooden pocket doors (choose from glass or screen doors) to the beautiful deck furniture to the construction of the house itself, we appreciated the quality of everything at Mango Bay. It is a big house, but the common areas are setup so that it's easy to be together. The 4 king suites worked great for us, and it was so nice that each bedroom had a similarly beautiful bathroom. Be aware that the bathrooms are not air-conditioned and are all open to the outside with screens on the window. For two of the bedrooms on the pool level, that means you can see in to the shower when you walk by outside. THE VIEW IS UNBELIEVABLE!!! From the upper level, you can see forever. Sunset skies were amazing. From the pool deck (left of the pool), there is also a spectacular view. Currently, trees block the view from the pool itself and the rest of that deck.We had a party of 6, but there is comfortable seating for 8 at the outside table and on the deck. We were not able to use our own playlists on the Sonos system, but we were able to find music to play. The beds and pillows are very comfortable. We had an issue with the AC in one bedroom on the first night, but it was taken care of as soon as we called. The kitchen had everything that we needed and we appreciated the towels, beach chairs, beach bag and cooler. We started and ended each day on the deck just looking at the view and we cannot wait

The kitchen is great, and we made much use of the grill. The indoor dining space in the patio were perfect for eight people. The house is perfectly located; 8 minutes from Trunk Bay, 5 minutes from cinnamon bay, and 6 minutes from Maho. I will certainly book this house again. Reviewer Comments: Our group of 7 enjoyed the well appointed bedrooms, kitchen and living space. We spent most of our time on the deck overlooking the beautiful views and watching the boats. It was handy to have 2 washing machines and dryers. We were only slightly disappointed with the pool. It is mostly shaded in the afternoon and the heater did not work, so it was too cold to enjoy that space.

However, we did have some other disappointments with the property. Please lock your bedroom doors if booking this property. We had a valuable ring stolen from one of the lower bedrooms. Unfortunately, Catered To was not as helpful as would have been expected and did not seem interested in the theft. They only asked if we had used the safe, which we had not. We will in the future! We have been on St John many times and never felt unsafe. The police asked for the security video from the cameras on the property, but those did not work. Catered To was very helpful leading up to our stay and with check-in. As for the house itself, views were amazing. Beds and furniture were all comfortable. Plenty of towels, kitchen was well stocked, and house was in good shape. The pool was too cold to use during our stay (shaded much of the day so does not warm up). The provided coolers and beach chairs could also use a refresh. Wifi worked great in the main room and bedroom right below it. Ants were a big issue in the living/kitchen area. Yes, it's in the forest, but we didn't think the requested exterminator was ever sent out. The four bedrooms are reasonably similar and this would work for 4 couples traveling together. Would also recommend for families with older kids. Worked great for ours, 11yrs and 14yrs old. Plenty of seating options and a large dining table. Grill worked well, as did all of the appliances (besides the fridge ice maker). Centrally located and the MidWay Market is super close and had all the staples that we needed.

I wish I didn't have to share this part but do because I would have wanted to know. We came in from dinner one night and a rat was on the counter eating our food that was all in baggies - we had cinnamon rolls, muffins, bread, chips, snacks...NONE of us had ever seen a rat like that and made us sick. We threw ALL food away. He ran back out through hole next to dishwasher. We saw his teeth gnawing marks. I called and staff came right away to put concrete in hole and sent exterminator. I asked that we be compensated for all food we threw away (food is very expensive on island) and they said no it is the tropics. Very disappointed. Not a mouse a 12" or so rat with his big tail. The road to the house is difficult with some very deep huge pot holes. It needs attention quickly. Railing on porch - found out in a scary way that one corner wasn't welded. Staff said they would get it welded day after we left (soonest they could come out). The house is great but these things were big negatives. Staff was very attentive when I called but we could never eat at the house again due to the rat. I understand being in tropics but we have rented from Hawaii, C.R., D.R., Jamaica, Aruba, Cozumel, Bermuda and NEVER had a rat in a house. Throwing hundreds of dollars of food away really took away from the house rental experience. My adult sons were throwing the ball in pool and one jumped to catch and how we found the railing not welded together. He almost went over the cliff. He said he was as scared as ever been. I do believe this was repaired right away but again was surprised Catered Vacation wouldn't have offered to compensate for these 2 things to keep us very satisfied. My stars are hard to rate - loved the place - but experienced above so it was hard to give general stars and why I wanted to explain the dissatisfactions.

Mango Bay - 50th Anniversary Holiday

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The house was great. We had 4 couples traveling for our parents' 50th wedding anniversary. So the layout of bedroom en suites were perfect. The villa was clean and very spacious and as the photos depicted. The extra 1/2 bath was useful while we entertained on the upper patio overlooking the bay or made meals, played cards in the main living area. However, being on the back side of the house and having to go outside was slightly inconvenient but clearly not the end of the world. The house is fully furnished and there wasn't anything we felt was lacking. We loved that there were enough beach chairs, large coolers, pool noodles available for our beach days. The pool was clean but really cold so it didn't get much use. Again, it wouldn't deter us from visiting this villa again. The king beds were all very comfortable, each bedroom has their own AC units and we absolutely loved the open-air showers overlooking the lush greenery. The only negatives, besides the cold pool were the ants in the kitchen. Even with the exterminator being there before we arrived, and we sprayed daily, the sugar ants were a problem. (Bring ziplock bags and put EVERYTHING in them.) The last was the road up to the villa, it was so rough and washed out that it truly did deter us from coming and going multiple times a day. The access roads made it inconvenient. However the driveway itself was in great shape and we liked the gated entry and private nature of the house and setting.

This home was exactly what we were looking for- a stunning view, private, easy access to Cinnamon Bay, Maho Bay, and Truck Bay, all while removed enough from Cruz Bay, yet easy to get back to for dinners and shopping. I HIGHLY recommend Mango Bay.

Where the Wild Things Are!!!

Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: If you are OK with bugs and you can look past that, the beds are comfortable and the views are amazing. Overall the house is beautiful and great for families, the only problem was bugs. We left early due to a bug infestation. We found a scorpion on day 2 of our 6 night stay after seeing plenty of other bugs the previous night, and we were told by the management company that this is common for the island. This was our 5th trip to the island and 4th house and we have never seen anything like this. We offered to pay for another villa but were told there were no other villas available. We were also told there would be no refund if we decided to leave and move somewhere else. We did ultimately leave early and spent an extra $2,000 for a last minute hotel since the bugs in the kitchen and bedrooms were too much for us too handle. The beds are nice, but having to access the bedrooms and any bathroom outside the main house was very inconvenient, and the portable ac units do not cool the rooms enough and are very old with holes. Would not recommend a stay here if you are not ok with bugs. I would also say the drive to the villa and beaches is very challenging with narrow roads that are partially paved with blind hair pin turns. In addition, when we arrived, a screen in the bedroom had a large tear over a foot wide that had to be repaired when we checked in which should have been repaired prior to our arrival. This let in multiple critters and we could not use this bedroom.

Review of Mango Bay Villa - St Johns USVI

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This was a beautiful home with an overwhelming view of Cinnamon Bay. The home is well furnished in all aspects. It has one quirk - the bathrooms and bedrooms are not connected to the main part of the house so you must go outside to get to either. There is an open air deck by the pool with teak furniture and a covered deck with teak furniture off the living room which is warm, comfortable, and with truly breathtaking views of ocean and other islands. A couple of words of advise to future renters: buy groceries and other supplies in one large trip because driving is perilous. The roads are virtually single lane, you drive on the left so if you are from the USA this is new, the roads are not well maintained and they have drainage lines dug out into the roads rather than underground culverts like in the USA. We experienced two half hour power outages during our week stay but apparently this is normal. The only two recommendations I would make to the management were to make sure there are battery LED lamps available for use during the outages, and, the kitchen sink faucet was loose, dispensed water at 1/3 the normal rate and did not dispense hot water. The faucet needs to be replaced is my guess.

The staff at Catered To was very easy to work with to rebook our trip each time. Once we arrived the villa was as beautiful as pictured. We truly enjoyed our stay and wouldn't hesitate to come back.

A view to remember

Property was as pictured online with extra features like a standby generator and two laundries. Property management was very responsible when we had some appliance issues.

Reviewer Comments: We arrived to St. John about 7:00 PM on a Sunday night and the Property Manager was so nice to meet us, wait for us to get out jeep and head to the house. She was very professional and gave us a full tour of the house even though it was pretty late on a Sunday. The house has "$20 MM" views of the BVIs - very, very affordable for the famous "North Shore" views. We had two adults and three kids - the house worked out perfect for our family. You really get the feel that you are in the rainforest of the National Park - unreal spot for the value! We would love to stay there again!

Nice but needs some work.

The house is nice but no ac in main room upstairs and you have to go outside to use a bathroom. Doors are not insulated so bugs were coming in the house. Could not use laundry room because windows were all open and couldn’t close them so there was bird poop all over the washers and dryers. It was really dirty for a laundry room.
