One of the peak experiences of our travels anywhere was attained at Bali Rica. In the hills above the village of Ojochal our hosts, Sharon and Mac, have created Paradise within an area that is still raw, unspoiled rainforest and jungle. After being in the Central Valley highlands for a week, being close to the ocean was a bit warmer and more humid, but never oppressive, with beautiful sunny mornings practically every day. The cool dip just outside the back door was a perfect balance. Just steps away was a gorgeous pagoda where a queen bed awaited - Nirvana. Not only is the property jawdropping, but the neighborhood, with its excellent roads, is really pretty, and a joy for taking walks (with friendly neighbors also out for their morning constitutionals).
The attention to detail is everywhere at Bali Rica, and you see it unfold as you explore all the nooks and crannies inside and outside the elegant, authentic Balinese cabina. A welcome basket was provided to nourish the body: Sharon had prepared scrumptious banana bread, and provided eggs from her chickens, bananas and limes from their trees -- all delicious. To soothe the mind, we meandered the lovingly landscaped grounds, observed the mysterious and ancient stone circle, and silently walked the labyrinth. We woke to the sounds of the jungle, parrots calling out, toucans overhead, and visits from the friendly ducks with their tiny ducklings and three friendly dogs. To elevate the spirit there were reminders everywhere of the interconnectedness of life, and that manifesting a vision of beauty and peacefulness (tranquilo) can occur anywhere.
The yoga pavilion is another work of art that offers weekly classes from a fine Iyengar teacher. Sharon's healing hands should not be missed. Just do not operate heavy machinery after a session with her. A surprise awaits as you find your way to the creek and Buddha resting against an ancient tree trunk above a reflection pool. (Om Shanti).
The time spent with Sharon and Mac was the icing on the cake. There are just no words to describe their love and generosity. TEN STARS are necessary for this place. We will be back!!!!!
